Official 2012-13 Offseason thread - trades, rumours, etc

im a twolve fan but d howard at LA would be sooooooooooooooooooo cool and would love to see the nash man win a big shinny gold thing:whistle::confused:

lou williams to the hawks is a nice pick up for them...

dorell wright traick de to 76ers is an interesting one... philly has changed the team around dramatically since last season - signed nick young & traded for dorell wright, gotten rid of lou williams & elton brand... not real game changers though...
im liking lou williams to atlanta but agree not much happening on the sixers front nick young and wright not real improving the side much probably gonna be a tuff year but have a good stretch of young talent

Maybe with all the special training, conditioning and advancements in technology older players can play even longer. If a player 15 years ago copped Grant Hill's injuries, he'd be retired a long time ago!

I think alot of it also has to do with how the game is played these days. It is alot less physical than it used to be back in the 80's and 90's (Exhibit A: Bill Laimbeer) and every team, even the Showtime Lakers had an enforcer (Exhibit B: Kurt Rambis) so the physical contact both in the paint and everywhere else for that matter was alot greater then, and it was basically when the NBA changed all the handchecking rules that the contact was massively reduced. This was about when Iverson came into the league, and it is from this draft especially that you still see quite a few players running around (Marcus Camby, Ray Allen and some guy called Kobe), though Hill and Kidd from the previous year's draft are great examples of what hard work can do.

That means the Heat have now had the two most overpaid players of all time.

Rashard and Juwan Howard.

Given my Michigan bias I feel I have to defend Juwan Howard a bit (only a bit as his payday was a ridiculous amount of money) but in context of what money was being thrown around at that time (Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson's contract was nearly as high), and from memory Howards contract was a Restricted FA offer (from Miami I think) that Washington matched, which can often end up with overpayments, but my main point is that Washington actually got production out of Howard for a few years (unlike Lewis in Seattle/Orlando) before eventually trading him. He was rarely injured, and was a solid professional, so on a per game basis I bet his money would not look as outlandish as a few others, say Grant Hill's Orlando contract. How many games did the Magic get out of Hill?
And think about it this way...if you averaged out Howards annual salary over his 19 seasons, it wouldnt be more than average for an NBA player given the fact that he has been on veteran's minimum for about 6 seasons now.
OK, so maybe that contract cannot be defended as anything but overpayment, but lets just say that Howard is in a pretty darn large group of NBA players who could not look in the mirror (two mirrors for Eddy Curry) and say that they have truly earned their money (hello Jerome James, just one name that jumps to mind)

Wow, never thought Ray would bring himself to sign for his arch nemesis. I like having him there but I really feel like they needed to have gotten a shot blocking Centre more than another shooting guard. I really don't like Rashard Lewis though..he can't defend, he can't rebound, he can't create shots, he's an average passer, and now he can't even shoot which was his only thing he could do. It's just a waste of money to me. I wish they could've made some moves to get Camby there but he probably wanted too much money for them to have made it attractive enough. I'm not a Mike Miller fan; yes he played his mind off in G5 but he's far too inconsistent and injured to be worth $5 M a year. I understand that it's a bit like how Trevor Ariza was let go from the Lakers after helping the Lakers win a title, but Mike just isn't worth that sort of money in my opinion. As I understand it, the Heat could've used the amnesty clause to waive Mike and with that $5M freed up, they could've afforded Camby?

Of course there are others. It was a joke. But it was also spot on. Big dog could play. Howard was a scrub and yeh he might've had a couple of seasons where he contributed, but he was a loser!!! On losing teams. Lewis at least was a part of a very good Seattle team that at least got to the 2nd round of the playoffs before losing to the Spurs. And he was also a part of a very good Magic team a few seasons ago.

Nets looks like they have run the race for Howard

It's now likely that Dwight WON'T be a Net this season, and the Magic WON'T be starting the Season with Howard on their active roster.

They're still looking to trade him, however the side that they trade him to, is pretty much a rental, as Dwight still wants Brooklyn. But, in saying that, this new offer for Lopez would put any stop to them signing Dwight as a FA, they'd need a S&T.... Probably not gonna happen either...

Agree, makes me think he will be heading to LA with what they can offer, as long as the rockets can come to the party as a 3rd party.

FINALLY!!

Something is happening in Big D...

http://mavsblog.dallasnews.com/2012/07/mavericks-set-to-sign-center-chris-kaman.html/

The Mavericks appear to be trying to salvage their off-season by signing veteran free-agent center Chris Kaman.
The 7-footer, who has teamed on German national teams in the past with Dirk Nowitzki, is expected to ink a one-year contract with the Mavericks, a move that will upgrade them in the short term, but also keep their salary space available for next summer’s bumper free agent crop, sources said.
Details to come.

Not sure why they havent done anything about Elton Brand yet, or a starting PG... They still havent re-signed Delonte West!

EDIT:
$8m??
