NRL Drugs scandal ????????

Curious why you would think illegal drugs in sport are prevalent?

I would answer no at this point in time. based on prevalent meaning widespread / common. Do they exist in sport? yes. Prevalent? No.
You are kidding right!

Boxing is a joke - How many ever get caught?
Cycling - Be real!
Golf - You reckon Tiger Woods was the only 1 doing recreational drugs, oh yeah and he never got caught! Be real!
AFL - 3 strikes and you're out, only if you get caught the 1st 2 times and they cover that up!
NRL - Andrew Johns never got caught and he represented at all the highest levels, so noone ever knew he was doing Ecstasy and whatever else - Amazing
NFL - Squeaky clean sport that is - Yeah right
Horse Racing - Squeaky clean again - Yep

The list could go on and on!

I wasn't kidding and OK point well made and taken.

I agree there is definitely recreational drug use by sports people as there is in society as a whole. In my original post I was more thinking PEDs than recreational drugs and probably with the NRL and Australian sports in my mind. I would still stand by this thinking and say PEDs aren't prevalant in Australian sport...excluding horses, dogs, weight lifters, bodybuilders and transvestite badminton players.

Whilst we can't agree on the use of the term "prevalent" surely you would agree recreational drugs aren't "rife" in Australian sport?

Personally I don't consider soft drug use, like an occassional pill or joint, as anything serious but in the context of this scandal, I suppose it is present in sport and needs consideration. But to me a few of the players getting high a couple of times a year I don't really have an issue with, in fact would consider it pretty normal behaviour for a twenty something year old male.

To me the issue is really about performance enhancing and match fixing.

Again certainly not performance enhancing as was proven by their weak olympic results. They only hurt themselves, I want to see the cheats caught and outed.

I totally agree with you but the problem is that all the sports heirarchy cover up most of the scandals so the public are normally unaware.

AT least six Sharks players are in the sights of ASADA officials, who this week commenced interviews at the club in relation to the agency's widespread investigation into doping in Australian sport.
It's understood the players of interest maintained personal contact with sports scientist Stephen Dank, who worked at Cronulla for a brief period in early 2011.
Dank was dismissed after a falling out with Sharks doctor David Givney, who didn’t approve of the manner in which he administered supplements.
News Limited has also revealed that Dank supplied at least one Sharks player with blood thinning agent, Warfarin, and used a private room at former medical clinic in Bankstown to inject players away from their clubs.
There was also rampant speculation that a press conference would be held this afternoon to announce the individuals concerned, but the NRL has denied any knowledge of this.

Comment is currently being sought from Sharks officials.
