Best goalie in the NHL, solid def and good offence. A team built to perform in the playoffs.

In future though I'll just get my hockey cards from www.dacardworld.com who ship to Australia and it arrives in about 3 days. I just got a box of Topps Baseball from there, I ordered it Friday an got it Tuesday. The UD hockey cards I bought have only now arrived at the US address.

Gotta give it to New Jersey, they took it to Game 6, but the Kings were peaking at the right time and were far too dominant to not win this thing.

Great to see it go to a team other than the original 6, especially great to see it go to a first timer.

Canucks for 12-13!

Congrats to the Kings. Quick is an awesome goaltender. Was sad to see us lose 6-1 in the last game. But was really cool to see the cup won by an 8th seed.

Some leaps of faith (and a lot of D-Men) were taken in the NHL Entry Draft, with 3 of the top 10 picks seeing only 46 games between them after spending large chunks of the last season on the long term injury list.

Last season #3 pick Alex Galchenyuk (Canadiens) only played 2 games!

Oilers had pick #1 (again!) and went with Nail Yakupov who grew up idolising Pavel Bure. Only 5 foot 11, but touted to be the next Ovechkin. Had problems with injuries last year and only saw 42 games, but still managed 31 goals and 69 points.

Vancouver as predicted went after a power forward and managed to snag probably the best one in the draft in Brendan Gaunce (older brother Cameron plays for Colorado)

The biggest move came when Penguins traded Jordan Staal (who recently turned down a 10 year deal with the Pen's) to the Hurricanes, where he'll be reunited with brother Eric, for Carolina's first round pick, Brandon Sutter and Brian Dumoulin

Card wise; I pulled a Junior Captains Game-Used Jersery of Ryan Murray from a box of Captain-C and he went pick #2 to Columbus. I also have a Derrick Pouliot auto from Heroes & Prospects and he went pick #8 to Pittsburgh.

So sadly, as the September 15 deadline looms closer, it seems we are destined for a lockout. And there is not much optimism of it being sorted soon - some are talking December, most seem to think January.

The main point of contention is of course money. The owners initially wanted to cut the player's share of revenue from 57% down to 43%. This was revised to 46%. Still a tremendous decrease. This is despite the league revenue increasing $1.2bil since 03-04.

Another, more ridiculous, sticking point for the owners is they are looking to introduce some sort of regulation on contract lengths. They are complaining there are too many lengthy high value contracts being written, despite the fact they are the ones slitting their own throats to offer these deals to lock up star players (ie just look at the pickle Vancouver are in now over Luongo's deal). Nuts.

However, an interesting story is coming from the Canadiens. Labor laws in Canada are provincial, and Quebec doesn't recognise the NHL Players Association. So while this means the players within Quebec forfeit their right to strike, it also means they cannot be locked out. Should the NHL issue a lockout, the Canadiens may still have to pay its players.

One can only hope cooler heads prevail and we don't get a repeat of the 04-05 lockout that wiped out the entire season. The difference now however is that unlike the 04-05 lockout, the public is on the side of the players.
