Hockey NHL Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

I've never collected hockey cards before so im pretty excited for the cards to arrive. I have been into hockey since the mid to late 90s but even more so now that I have access to watch so many live games via NHL gamecenter.
I plan to start a Ducks PC. Especially Teemu Selanne and players from the stanley cup winning team. I'll create a wanted list once I figure out what I'm after. I'm not sure if im quite ready for the more higher priced cards yet but a few of the lower range inserts will be good. Maybe the higher priced ones in the future.

Awesome, thanks for the link. Going to order some UD Black Diamond and ITG Heroes and Prospects through them.
I sorted what I got from the two retail boxes of UD Series 1 and I have a complete base set with a fair stack of doubles. With the two Hobby Boxes still to come I may end up with 2-3 complete base sets.
Got those 2 UD S1 Hobby Boxes in the mail today, a few good finds. Thornton, Ovechkin & Fleury Canvas Cards, a Daniel Sedin Jersey card made me pretty happy, and a Cameron Gaunce UD Exclusives Young Gun.
Got a butt load of base cards to sort, as well as a few Young Guns doubles amongst others.
Still yet to hit a clear cut, signature sensation, or patch card.

Despite his review though, can't say I'm too fussed with Score.

Got my UD black Diamond Blaster box this morning. I'm going to buy a hobby box asap, what a great looking set!
Highlights from the 6 packs:

- Chris Stewart Double Diamond

My order arrived today and from the Black Diamond box the pick of the bunch would be a Ruby Quad Patrick Roy 71/100. Also got:
- Ruby Rookie Gem Cam Atkinson 27/100
- Ruby Single Tobias Enstrom 40/100

- Quad Nicklas Lidstrom
- Mats Zuccarello Gemography
- Jerseys: Zdeno Chara, Miikka Kiprusoff
- Rookie Gems: Stephane Da Costa, David Rundblad, Justin Faulk, Alexei Yemelin, Jarome Iginla, Brad Marchand
High rate of duplicates in the single diamond range though. Every card I got in the 50-99 range had a duplicate, bar two. Still, these are really nice looking cards, and I'm tempted to get another box. However, I have ordered 2 boxes of UD Series 2 (plus a bunch of sleeves and toploaders) and after that I might give a rest for a bit.
BTW, my free gift from D&A Card World was two boxes of UD 07/08 Rookie Class. It's a simple complete set of the 50 top rookies from that season + a 3.5" x 5" commemorative card of 1 rookie. Whilst I'll hang onto both commemorative cards I don't need a second base set, so it's free incl postage to whoever wants it, still wrapped. You can see a guy breaking a box here:

Flyers/Pens has been wild. Great to see the passion, not so great that the puck is their #1 priority.
Also Shanahan's suspensions are horribly inconsistent. Asham gets 4 games for a behind play cross check, while Carkner only gets 1 for decking an unwilling combatant and laying into him when he was down on the ice.

If the Canucks get bundled out then my allegiances shift to Ottawa. Would like to see Alfredsson hoist the cup, especially after that dog elbow from Hagelin.
I use NHL Vault. Seeing as most games are on when I'm at work paying $120 for Gamecenter doesn't make much sense, Vault's only $5 a month and games are pretty much put up the next day. Plus to get access to a massive library of past games.

It all went tits up when they traded Hodgson, not only did they lose a great play-making center, leaving them with only Henrik, it messed up the balance of the lines and they never really got in sync again. It was blatantly apparent when Vigneault was shuffling them around like a deck of cards.
It also completely nutted the powerplay.
Sure they had a great record in the stretch, but that was against teams that didn't make the playoffs. And admittedly Vancouver are the big fish in a weak division.
Oh well I'll be happy if the Caps bundle out the Bruins, and Ottawa goes on to win.

it made it abit hard with one of the sedin brothers out first 3 games of playoffs but after droping the first 2 at home you guys where always going to struggle ....
nothing would be better than the bruins out carnt wait till thursday hope its shown on tv
