It was Boston's Rick Pitino. He's Celtics played so badly in 1996-97 he was CERTAIN he would get first pick in the lottery. He ended up getting pick 3 and was shattered. He drafted Chauncey Billups with pick 3, and Ron Mercer shortly after that, but not before pleading with the Spurs the ridiculous offer of the entire Celtics roster (including Antoine Walker, and a decent Dana Barros) for Tim Duncan
