Is trading dying?

I think too much emphasis can be placed on "getting the best deal" for what you got, which is sort of against the spirit of it all isn't it?

I mean right now, I am chasin a Bron patch, my trade file has maybe $600 USD worth in there? If someone wants the lot for a Bron patch, I don't care if it only books at $70! Bring it on, the file's open!

I think traiding 3 way would be a good idea although I havnt done it before.

Been trading up a storm lately. That's what the stuff in my bucket 'FT' is for. Happy to sell it also if I don;t need anything or can't find something I'd happyily move on to someone else for another trade or as a suprise gift.

I believe it is very hard to make a trade, even in the NBA, unless both sides have what they want in each other, a 3 way trade always help solve problems.

I actually have a lot of cards on my trade page listed but I don't seem to get the right deals. My main problem is that no one has any Shaq cards to offer. I cannot believe how little Shaq cards there are on this forum.

In the beginning i only had base and inserts and tried to trade, that didnt work so i bought some bait and pc and started there.
I have some tough financial times so i do try and sell to get some $ to continue in the hobby.
I find that some members dont reply to pm's (even in trades in there favor) or like a certain card i have for trade and when i pick something in there bucket (equivalent value) they all of a sudden lose interest.
Atm i have $0 to spend on cards (unemp) so i have tried to push some trades and even asking if they dont like the offer to make counter offers but its a very slow process and not really going anywhere.

I have to admit that i am not the easiest person to trade with as i am very picky with my pc cards (i hate damaged cards - i cant put them in my pc) and i always am open on what condition the cards i offer out.

In answer to the question trading is not dying it just depends on both parties wanting to deal and good open communication (basically dont get upset with an offer which is way off, work through it and explain yourself).

Haha to some extent you are right, most cards I already have, but a lot of the GU these days I am still trying to get them. Actually I am also after a lot of base cards in some recent releases, like Turkey Red, I don't have any Shaq cards from that set.

I remember a couple of months ago, I traded with Linn and someone from here sent me a PM and giving his opinion that I got sort of ripped off. He thinks that the deal was too much in Linn's favor. My trade with Linn.

But for me, I agreed to the deal because of the fact that I needed those cards and I know that Linn wants them. Trading should not be based only on book values but for being happy about it. Its a hobby!

did you tell that particular someone that I didn't ask for the cards you offered, in fact, i didn't even check ur photobucket for that.. you just offered me those cards coz i PMed to help your wantlist in your sig..

Sometimes, i don't understand some people here, they cheaply assume what's really not... And I feel it's poor form even to think like that.

Anyway, back to the topic, I hardly sell on either ebay or here.. and trade hardly here, but i can promise you if i get free cards package to be written as a trade, I will be getting more than 100 feedbacks by now..

that's how I enjoy this community.. I can pretty much say, past 6 months, i get free packages almost every week or bi-weekly.... and i like majority of the people here.. hobby is all about fun, i hope you find it enjoyable and fun..

There are people who always see pessimistic point of view in trading... or always wanna trade in their favour, that's very normal in trading.. the most important thing is if people who traded/bought/sold with you is satisfied, that's the history, you can feel the same way too..

I have been back into collecting (3rd stint) for the past 2 months and it certainly is not as good as it was in the mid-90's, but I also think ebay has alot to do with it. There seems to be alot of people in it for quick $$$ and alot who seem to only trade if it is in their favour. Personally I would trade more than I am getting back in BV if it is to help my personal collection, but it hasn't been as fun as I thought it was and I am now also just trying to clear out my (small) trade list and just buy the Tony Parker cards I need/want.

Not at all just telling it how it is....I think a card shop that opened in melb in 94 or 95 lasted 2 months lol....it was just bad business to trade commons back for packs.

well, it's pretty hard to know who you collect except i know u like patrick o'bryant and tj ford.. and some patches... all 3 kinds, they are pretty much hard to find heheh...

but i saw u sent out plenty of free cards, but ended up on ebay and sales thread.. that wasn't nice though..

all the free cards i received, i always keep it, except for one wood jersey auto, i sent it to Andrew23 for his birthday present, coz that player is his main PC player..

i got this UD victory TJ ford rookie 03-04, if u haven't got it, let me be the first one to send it to u... sorry don't have any other TJ ford except his one auto from sweetshot for my PC...

But you collect pretty high end - hard to give away cards one doesn't have LOL

I give cards away sometimes - but not as often as I'd like mostly because I have very little trade bait left and I need something to keep my collection moving. Although its about a standstill at the moment...
