They are supposed to be a business so they should not keep the 1's, they should be releasing the entire print run to the collectors. They are in the business of producing cards for collectors. Could never imagine Topps/Upper Deck/Panini commiting such an act....the 1's are highly sort after BY COLLECTORS!

I Bet all the people saying that they would keep the No. 1 cards are only thinking as a collector not as a supplier. Put the shoe on the other foot you are advertising card numbered to what ever (50,150,300) you should have every chance to get all, meaning you should have every chance to be able to get all cards #1 included. IMO a 000/XXX would be a much better one for them to keep.

some good points by everyone.. For those saying Select are business, for the guys on this site who are a "business" when you purchase a case, do you make every card available?

I'd say the ones 100% commited to being a business would....others get torn between treating it as a hobby and a business. At the end of the day Select is the manufacturer though, not a reseller so they shouldn't have a foot in each door.

I can see your point and been a collector if i had the opportunity to purchase "Select" by winning the lotto, i would, so i could get the cards and make them as well, best of both worlds...

Hay everyone I just want to know the truth, has Select ever made an announcement that they have kept the number 1 numbered cards from any of their releases ever made? Or is this just a myth,
like the lock nest monster.
If Select has kept the number 1's of cards for themselves they can get in trouble as a business.

So you don't see a problem with this happening? You don't feel it cheats the collectors out of the opportunity to get some great cards, and ruins the hobby for everyone else?

If I owned a card company I would never do anything like that ... coz it wouldn't be about me, it'd be about making my customers happy, and growing the industry.

if i owned select ,i would choose another number but it would be a low number
bet you see them on ebay one day for small fortune
then it poses the question is select a collector or a retail outlet
so does that mean selects owner ,i wont mention any names, has folders full of no1 inserts tucked away somewere ?

Why keep a numbered one at all? Select make multiple extras in the event cards come out damaged. Top Prospects signed 350 cards and Select release them /300 so they have 50 backups...keep one of the extras of each card if you want to keep a catalog.

Exactly ... they have cards that say "Player" on them instead of having a number, why not just make some saying "Select" there?

why can they get in trouble?

There are laws that promote and encourage manufacturers to respect property rights, the laws are designed to ensure that products sold to consumers have been manufactured in accordance with principles of fair trade,
If anyone has any proof of Select holding number 1 cards, or any number for that fact and is really upset about it they could lodge a complaint to The Department Of Fair Trading and I’m sure they will investigate.
One reason many collectors are spending Big $$$, is to get these numbered cards, If Select did hold numbered cards they are worse than the people who search cases.

remember reading in the AFL section that there was a Select no1 of an AFL card on ebay at the start of the year. went crazy high if i remember correctly.

My opinions are coming from a "collectors" side, not as a business person, just saying for me being a collector to be able to have the opportunity to own #1 would be be awesome, in actual fact it wouldn't bother me what number it was, as long as i had the card
If i just owned the company and wasn't a collector, this was just a business for me, then i wouldn't care...
