D12 Rapper Shot Dead...

How do you know he was a victim of a rival gang wars?

From what I gather, he was only an artist, musician. He doesn't kill innocent people for fun. Does he still deserve to die?

Just because they're black and a rap musician, it's not all about gang bangs all the time.

i agree 100%. Everyone deserves a chance, how would we know what he's done anyway? Eminem and 50 Cent are dirty rappers who rap about heaps of bad things, same with guys like Fabolous and Ja Rule, but obviously they aren't up on the streets shootin guys up every day!

Another rumour or update.

A 28-year-old man suspected of fatally shooting rapper Proof of D12 turned himself in today (April 12).

Mario Etheridge, 28, of Detroit is being detained by the police for allegedly shooting the rapper during an altercation inside of the C.C.C. nightclub.

Etheridge was also a bouncer at the C.C.C. nightclub.

Police said he is a cousin of Keith Bender Jr., the bouncer who was allegedly shot by Proof during the fight, which took place around 4:30 am Tuesday.

Sources told AllHipHop.com that the altercation was rooted in a pool game.

For unknown reasons, the men two began arguing and a fight broke out.

A shot was fired in the air, Proof allegedly pistol-whipped Bender, knocked him to the ground and then shot him.

Etheridge then allegedly open fire on the rapper, striking him four times in the head and chest.

Authorities are still investigating the incident, but police said the 28-year-old was cooperating with authorities.

Bender, a former Sgt. in the United States Army, is on life support in critical condition.

If this is true and a real story of what happened, then for whom who thought it was another gang bang event because it was a rapper that was involved whom happened to carry a gun at the time, so how about it?

This can happen to anybody, anywhere, anytime, in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not defending the dude like he is/was an angel. I think his death happened in a very stupid incident but please don't generalise.

You see fights in taverns, pubs and shit. The difference is gun rules are a lot more stricter here, therefore, gun fights rarely happens here in Oz.

It's definitely all about the guns. No two ways about it. A few hits upside the head with a pool cue wouldn't likely kill you, but when you start pulling a gun, it's all over for someone.Fights are bound to happen, it's the guns that are the problem for the yanks.
I didn't realise there were so many gangsta rap fans here. I was probably a bit young for the old skool 2pac etc. I'm into anything new though. I like hearing the storie's in the raps, that's what gets me interested, lol. What do you guys think of DMX?

^ True Brad. I like the lyrics that means more than anything. Story-telling lyrics are great.

DMX, I like his older stuff. His older stuff was good to listen to. I haven't heard or got his newest album so I don't know whether he's still the same but DMX old school was super!

Party Up, How's It Going Down, Ruff Ryders Anthem, Slippin', Ain't No Sunshine.... are all classic tracks for me.

^^^ I have DMX's new album, pretty gud stuff! He's a great actor too (Cradle 2 The Grave & Romeo Must Die!) He just looks so cool!

Yeah, I like the way he dresses himself. Nice clothings.

A very sad day in the music industry. Very sad.

He was one of my fave's from the rap-group also.

He will be missed very much.

But on the other side of it all..... as much as I hate to state this out (I havent read all the post replies as im too lazy lol)...

The Rap/Hip-Hop industry is one of the most dangerous. Look at how many of the guys get shot at, killed, deal with drugs, any kind of crime! I know a lot of other rockers, pop artists, metal heads, techno dudes etc all get bad press too, but it seems to me that Rap & Hip-Hop are the worst.

Maybe if they didn't go around saying "Yo, wassup? I'm the coolest dude on this damn planet hommie! Now don't cha back-chat me now or ima blow ya nut sack off, right?" to every other artist and other people, they might not get such a bad name and such :smt018. I dislike hi-hop and rap, but dont mind SOME of the songs that don't have a very bad message. Example, Eminem's song Kim... that's about killing his wife!! Like thats something to be really proud of producing... This encourages kids to go out and kill people (not that I am blaming lyrics for what people do, we all have to be accountable for our own decisions in life and what we do!!). Yeah I listen to metal and anti-political kinda music (a big name in music against politics is System Of A Down). Has anyone seen headline news saying that the guys from soad have been shot at? Not that I know of.... I'm just babbling but it ticks me off when people can't just do their jobs rather than sticking guns in each others faces :S

This is just my opinion, and I stand by it. Violence is not an answer!

This is interesting....

Family of Victim Sues Rapper's Estate

05/01/2006 5:55 PM, AP

The family of 35-year-old Army veteran Keith Bender have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the estate of rapper Proof, who police say shot Bender before he was killed.

Proof, whose real name was Deshaun Holton, died April 11, the day of the early morning gun battle at the CCC nightclub. Bender was hospitalized in critical condition and died a week later.

Proof "violently assaulted and battered (Bender), culminating with the infliction of a gunshot injury that caused the death of Mr. Bender," according to the lawsuit filed Monday by Bender's wife, Jacqueline, and his mother, Leona.

A message seeking comment was left for Proof's lawyer, David Gorosh.

Police have said Bender's cousin, Mario Etheridge, who helped with security at the club, shot Proof. Etheridge has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon and discharging a firearm in a building in the incident.

Etheridge's lawyer, Randall Upshaw, said last week that Proof was drunk and angry about a game of pool when he approached Bender at the club. The two argued and were separated, and Proof returned with a gun, pistol-whipped Bender and then shot him in the face, Upshaw said.

"It is shameful that Mr. Holton is being lauded as a hero and martyr, when, in fact, it was his own criminalistic conduct that not only led to his death, but took the life of an honorable, innocent man," Michael Cafferty, a lawyer for Bender's family, said in a statement.
