D12's Proof Slain in Detroit Nightclub....

By TOM KRISHER, Associated Press Writer1 hour, 9 minutes ago Proof, a member of rap group D12 and a close friend of Eminem, was shot to death early Tuesday at a nightclub along Eight Mile Road, a publicist said.

The death of Proof — whose real name is Deshaun Holton — was confirmed by Dennis Dennehy, the publicist for D12's label, Interscope Records.

"Memorial service arrangements are still being made, and his friends and family would appreciate privacy during this difficult time," Dennehy said in a statement.

Family members gathered at a home on Detroit's northwest side. The residential street in front of the two-story home was lined with vehicles.

Proof was the best man at Eminem's wedding in January and often appeared alongside the superstar rapper at concerts and public appearances. He also appeared in the film "8 Mile."

D12, which includes Eminem, has been around since the mid-1990s, when members of the rap group met at Detroit's Hip-Hop Shop, a clothing store by day and a hip-hop club by night.

Detroit police wouldn't confirm that Proof was killed, but said two people were shot in the head — one fatally — early Tuesday at a nightclub on Eight Mile.

An argument at the CCC nightclub escalated into gunshots, Detroit police spokesman James Tate said.

Wende Berry, a spokeswoman for St. John Health System, said Holton was dead on arrival at St. John Conner Creek, an outpatient treatment facility. Berry confirmed that he had a gunshot wound.

Another member of Eminem's inner circle — rapper Obie Trice — was shot while driving on a Detroit-area highway in December.

Ahhhh my cousin smsed me this this morning and I didn't believe him. Damn.
I just bought his first solo cd a couple of days ago. I remember Obie getting shot and was glad he didn't kick it.

OMG. I'm shocked. :(
I literally bumped into him at a club called Club A here in Perth a night before they did a show here. He took the time to shake my hand and say wassup to a mate and I while on the way to the loo - he even had his sideways hat on. Can't believe the news. He was the coolest dude with a lot of talent.

Yeah I member Proof rapping on Purple Pills, thought he was the coolest of them. Then as he progressed, he really amounted to a lot of talent.

Such a shame that people go like this.

How many Rappers have died from gunshots now..... far out!!!

RIP Proof.

I know little of him but rest in peace.

I remember when 'Pac died back in '96. That was quite sad because he is/was my favourite artist.

By the way, at Beckett, there's a rumour floating around that the other dude who's in a critical condition because of gunshot wound to the head as well, may well be Bizarre from D-12 as well.

Too many aye Mavs, still am a little shocked :(

Always thought he was great supporting Em in the "Up in Smoke" tour. Gotta see the dvd if ya haven't, but sure most have.

Just read that it wasn't Bizarre, from ninemsn:
Dennehy could not confirm the identity of the second man who was shot but said rumors that D-12 member Bizarre was involved were false. He was home in Atlanta, Georgia at the time.

^ Cool. Thanks for your correction Trav.

Since I'm not too familiar with Eminem's clique. Did Obie Trice recover from his shooting?

Glad you asked:
This was the second shooting involving Detroit rap stars in recent months. Obie Trice was shot in the head while driving in Detroit with his girlfriend on New Year's Eve. The bullet remains lodged in his skull but Trice has recovered and is working on a new album.

I love Obie Trice, 'Cheers' was a great album.

holy crap! I've got both of Proof's album and thought he was definately the most talented member of D-12 behind eminem!

2PAC all the way .. but sad to hear this news about Proof.. wonder if this will turn into another "Biggie/Pac" showdown, where members of each others groups go blow for blow and take each other out.. I'm still waiting for P-Diddy to be taken down (not cos I want him taken down, but cos he was the man with Biggie).. anyways, stop the gunfire

It's spooky, as Proof's character in that film clip was shot and killed.

If you think that's spooky, have you seen the conspiracy theories and all the co-incidences of 'Pac's alive theories?

Man who hasnt! There's SHIT loads of them aye!

I used to be right into him and his stuff back in those years. Wrote a piece on him for School and all.

Have most of his CDs, Movies, etc.

I loved reading the theories tho. Some great stuff, with the dates, and the "Suge shot him" at the start of Mavaiveli CD. LMAO!

Pac was meant to "re-appear" last year, but the date past and he never showed up.. he could very well be alive, so much evidence that says so, but also alot that says he's not.. no proof and never will be
