BBL 05 2015/16

Next time I suggest turning the BBL off with 2 overs to go, will someone please shoot me!?!?!
I'd half given it up too mate. I'm starting to think that KP has got more out of the Melbourne Stars franchise than they have out of him. That's two games in a row now that he hasn't seen his team through to victory, following an unsuccessful shot at the title last season.

What about Nathan "GOAT" Lyon in the first game though? I can't believe that he doesn't command a spot in Australia's ODI or T20 teams! The "fiddling" with ten overs in an ODI or four in a T20 can be extremely costly and without Johnson, Watson and possibly Starc I'd be seeking an experienced, crafty, cool-headed bowler.

Anything that wipes the smiles of Maxwell and co's faces is gold for mine.
The common denominator is you Chris. MIA for two games and Thunder are 2 from 2. Thats after being a long suffering supporter that attends every home game....

Think I need to email Nick Cummins from the Thunder - no letting you in to the next home game LOL

People have said the same about me and Souths. Yikes!! But I'll be at the next game. Let's see if the theory holds water

Great article in SMH talking about success of WBBL. It's even completely outrating the NBL and A League.
Went to two games last weekend, Scorchers v Hurricanes and Stars V Hurricanes. Saw A hatrick, some outstanding fielding and some big hitting including several sixes.

Wold encourage everyone to go and watch if they get the chance. We currently have the best of Australia, New Zealand, England, West Indies and Sri Lanka here....

I've got three girls in my Minis team. They all play hard and one is fiercely determined and is ultra competitive. Her and her brother just egg each other on and on to out bat, out bowl and out field each other. It's awesome. A dream come true [I have a great aunt who played for Australia a long time ago and one of my brother's best mates is Lisa Stahlekar] and because I've been saying for ages women's cricket needs to be taken more seriously and it's starting to get the respect it deserves. WBBL is here to stay and it's only going to get bigger and better and girls will take it on as another legit option to soccer/netball.

I watched the Heat vs Strikers game on Saturday afternoon and upon reflection I probably learned more about cricket in two hours listening to Melanie Jones and Lisa Stahlekar than I would in an entire season listening to the Channel Nine commentary team. There was an absence of in-jokes, nicknames (if Howie calls Andre Russell "Dre Russ" once more I'll start cutting myself!) and self-indulgence. The tactics were discussed in a basic, easily understandable, casual manner and I loved how they "personalised" the players. Like the one who wears "Marvel" themed socks! :-)

TV coverage of the WBBL is essential in promoting it Australia-wide and as a lead-in to the BBL game it has worked really well so far.

I think her name was Dot (or Dorothy). For the life of me, I don't know her surname...I'll try and find out from mum.

The story is she was going to go play in England - now this would have been 50's or 60's, or some such.

Anyway, women couldn't tour if they got married and about a week before they left, her boyfriend proposed to her and she accepted and that was that. I always thought two things - why not wait to answer when she'd come back? [not the done thing in those days apparently, not for little women expected to stay at home] and how bloody sad it was she missed out!

Was her name Dot Laughton? She's the only Dot on the list and there isn't a Dorothy. Says she debuted against the England womens team on the 19th of February 1949 and never played another match. Hope this information helped you :)

I'll be seeing my folks in the hols and see if they can enlighten me.

Went to the Thunder last night. My hoodoo broken. Wookie on the big screen too. Took my father in law to his first game and he had a blast. Huge crowd, good result. Def have to checkout members after match next game.

I think the BBL needs a tight finish or two in the next few matches - the last three results have been quite one-sided. It doesn't make for great television when the games finish early, although Channel Nine would feel similarly about the current Test series!

I don't know whether Andrew Flintoff qualifies for a Gold Logie nomination but jeepers he is a one-man stage show in the commentary box! I think Ten have done a tremendous job with the commentary teams in general - there is never a game where I say to myself "Oh, not HIM again!", as I often do with Nine.

The Big Bash is where it's at - my only concern is that if I ever attended a game, my horrendous eyesight (even allowing for my glasses) paired with a hard-hit ball into the stands in my general direction, is not a good match!! :-)

Another great result, the atmosphere was great & my two kids & I had a ball....

Glad you finally got to see another win Chris.

Get to a game Matt, you wont regret it. It is an awsome experience.

Seeing 29k at the SCG Sunday night & then 22k last night at Spotless for what are domestic cricket games is unbelievable. More people attended one game than in the last 10 years of shield cricket.....
