5th Ashes Test Discussion

Mate i agree with you im not a fan of his and Hughes at all, he has been given a saloon ride into the Aussie side and he has not consistantly performed when it has counted, BUT i can't see anyone in a better position who has as much experience...

I agree, I think Watson will be in contention though if things go bad with pup. Watson and ponting are always together in the slips, they are always side by side chatting when the camera shows the dressing room, almost like he is being groomed. He needs to control his emotions a lot more, particularly his body language...

Hussey has the smarts but his age is also against him. They will persist with Ponting until such time Clarke can build respect from the team (I think it is a mistake)

Langer has been helping him.... If you can remember Keppler Wessels when he came on the scene he was scoring like a machine then the windies worked him out, granted he came back i don't see the same steel in Hughes, we would be better putting in S.Marsh...

Didn't the windies attack of that era work everybody out! There isn't a pace attack as close to that in world cricket these days

I don't know what it is about SMarsh maybe hes rubbed someone up the wrong way in the heirachy, like many others before him...

I believe he has injury problems (back if I remember)

YEAH I agree Ponting will stick around max 2 years, drop down the batting order as well, then hopefully within that time frame someone stands up....
also while we are at it, im not sure about Khawaja, has hardly played any state cricket and has been elevated into the side, sure he has scored some runs, but no experience....

Khawaja = lamb to the slaughter IMO, surely they can't blood him at number 3, start him at 6 like Punter and move hussey up to 3 or if clarke is standing up shove him into 3

yeah the windies worked everyone out, but KW due to his batting technique of bringing the bat around his front leg, left a gap which the bowlers targeted and kept on bowling him, he had this weakness for years...

So the question must be asked what is wrong with the State Cricket if we can't find anyone suitable to make a test side let alone captain one.

All this talk about the short ball to Hughes and how it wil get him out. Not once has he got out to the short ball. He has been getting out to good bals and Watson.

it's not the short ball it's the ball that angles back into his hands you can see he has worked on it and coming to terms with it but not with Watsons stupid call

Well one thing wrong is they have not picked players on merit, some players have been scoring big runs year after year and don't get picked, Hussey, Hodge, Klinger to name a few, then you get some one like Khawaja, Clarke, Hughes, score a few runs elevated straight into the side...
Also the selectors need to be accountable as well Hilditch seems like a twat...

I agree walshy, I know you may be just a little bit biased, but too much pressure was put on him after SA, the next bradman blah blah! He just needs to get his confidence back up and I reckon he should be opening with Hussey with watson at 3... didn't hussey start as an opener???

Oh hodge, poor bugger! definitely agree with what you are saying here!

typical comments from a 29 year old don't you know the reflexes slow down as you get older

yeap Hussey started as an opener for WA, first time i saw him play said he would play for Australia as an opener, but made it as a middle order batsmen....

Is that in regards to Hussey? Damn some of the situations he has come into this summer and other times, its like he's bloody opening anyways!!!

yes it was, every time he made a big score he came in against a relatively used ball and by the time they took the new ball his eye was in, when he came in against a relatively new ball he didnt fare so well

Also another issue is we are breeding t20 players who think that we have to score 6 runs an over in a test match they have no patience to play out a maiden over, seriously look at our players besides Hussey and a few others they would struggle to bat 1 0r 2 sessions straight

Guess I am just grasping at straws, if they aren't prepared to shake up the side, then they should shake up the order, do something!

Agree, but that was also bred by players like hayden and gilly who could get away with it in test cricket, but also knew how to occupy the crease

Also in the 1st innings in Melb, Hughes started with a flurry but knuckled down and was batting well against some great bowling, Punter comes out and blasts two boundaries, 1st ball next over hughes gets a rush of blood and holes out...

every player in the side has potential but are not living up to it which usually means one thing....there is unrest in the camp, players are not getting along or someones doing someones missus either way they have to fix it

interesting to see that people want Mitchell Starc in the Test side as a bowler but according to the stats he hasn't taken a wicket all year or am I reading that wrong
