I would hate if that was his last test. He certainly deserves to leave on his own terms.
Well as much as I hate to say it, I think it will be! I heard that he would have played if it was an ashes decider, but Punter knows better than most that it's a crucial test, if we lose than England has achieved what they wanted and that is to crush us like we have them for so many years, but if we win than the records will show that they only managed to retain them and would give us momentum going into the next series!
2-2 after 5!
(Whatever happened to the 6th test and when was that stopped in ashes series???)
I think CA will be hoping that we win the world cup, Ponting goes out on a high and the whole thing is put to bed!
What would another week have really done to Punters world cup preparation??
From what I understand The England & Wales Cricket Board turned down Cricket Australia's push for six Ashes Tests , The ACB were keen to make the most of what is our most lucrative series at home by adding a Hobart match.......
**** a hobart test would of been sweet.
I hate england and wales.
Thanks googleAshes series have generally been played over five Test matches, although there have been four-match series (1938; 1975) and six-match series (1970–71; 1974–75; 1978–79; 1981; 1985; 1989; 1993 and 1997).
My prediction Hughes / Clarke score century's, Clarke is hailed as an innovative captain, we smash the poms, everyone then thinks all is good....

then you wake up and we are 3 for 2 again, if you think dropping Ponting and putting in a debutante and making Clarke Captain will solve our problems think again, Bookies dont put up 7 to 1 odds that we won't win the ashes back until the year 2022 for the fun of it, the rebuild needs to start now. My tip is they will lose badly, Clarke will do the "Kim Hughes" (google that) and history will repeat itself as it always does
I actually hope we do lose in a way, so as you say we start rebuilding, which means Hughes, Doherty, Katich and a few others are moved along.... Ok my knowledge of Kim Hughes was that he was constantly back stabbed by Lillee, Marsh and Greg Chappell and also by Ian Chappell as well, he then quit as Australian Captain with that famous resignation where he was in tears, can't see how that is relevant to Clarke?
Clarke is not ready to captain the test team and he knows it, if they force it on him after a couple of test he too will resign in tears, pardon the pun but he is still a "Pup" as far as captaincy goes
You mention Katich, I think he has seen his last test too. Despite his consistency he will be 36 by the time we play another test...
I don't think Hughes will be moved along for a while, they will persist, he needs time to adapt, look how long it took Watson
Katich is purely an age thing as you say as well.... Hughes im afraid has such a poor technique that he is a liability, sure he will score a century every so often and probably make big scores againsts Zimbabwe & Bangladesh, but when he comes up against better opponents they will work him out....
Yeah but he is so young and has a lot of skill, his technique has even progressed a little from the last ashes in england, he just needs confidence and someone working with him on his technique. Isn't Justin Langer one of the batting coaches for aus? he should be all over him trying to help his technique, I know they are 2 extremes of left handed openers.
