I would like to see Khawaja given a go at Number 3 if not Marsh, but it will be interesting to see who the clowns pick. I'm hoping they will go in with this team:

1. Watson
2. Hughes
3. Khawaja
4. Clarke (C) (just because the selectors won't drop him and he will captain)
5. Hussey
6. Haddin (WK)
7. Smith (while Haddin is in form push him up one so Smith drops to 7)
8. Johnson
9. Siddle
10. Hilfenhaus
11. Beer (we need spin at Sydney)

IN: Khawaja, Beer
OUT: Ponting (Injury), Harris (Injury)

I'm thinking if the Sydney Pitch is as it usually is, we need at least one spinner, so Beer will fit that role, and if needed Smith and Clarke can have a bowl). I think 3 Pacers should be enough plus Watson.

We can only hope for the best ;)

EDIT: Katich confirmed as not available, cheers Brad

The 2 changes will be Beer for Harris and Khawaja for Ponting.

Not sure where you are getting your mail from re Katich but he is not even close to being fit.

They will persist with Hughes again, he was looking alright until he got shafted by Watson.

yep, i think you are spot on with those changes BJS... also think they will give Hughes one more go as they have nothing to lose now! Also think that they should not put any more pressure on clarke and give the captaincy to Haddin.

oh thanks mate, foxsports said last week that he was almost certain to play in the Sydney so i assumed he was, don't trust foxsports...

yeah spot on. The pressure of batting is getting to Clarke, so there is no point of giving the captaincy. Better off giving it to either Haddin or Hussey as you say.

I assumed Beer was initially selected for his knowledge of the Perth wicket. If it's horses for courses I would prefer Hauritz or O'Keefe at Sydney. But it will most likely be Beer.

As i said before, nothing to lose now, may as well try some new blood, if Beer is next in line then bring it on i say! What have we got to lose :)

An Ashes Series....we can still draw the series and put a dampener on the Poms celebrations. I would be dropping Clark before Ponting (if he wasn't injured) and using Hauritz as the spinner in Sydney.

Cheers
Ross

yeah Clarke's doing stuff all, but the selectors won't drop him as he is the likely replacement to Ponting and the captaincy. Beer has been training will the squad since the Perth Test so i assume he will play as the spinner, as much as i would like Hauritz to play he is just not in the selectors favour...

I would be dropping clarke without a doubt.. bring in hodge or david hussey.. that gives us an option for another spinner as well

And to add to that, I would be taking hauritz long before i chose beer! hauritz is in amazing form at the moment.. on fire with the ball and the bat.

why drop Smith down a spot that would be dumb,he is picked as an allrounder (although limited as a bowler it seems) so let him get some time at the crease to evolve into a batsman don't drop him down to hit with the slappers, secondly Hillfy needs to be shown the door and try someone new like Starc, he looks very promising

If the Hauritz wasn't hated by the selectors I'd say bring in Hauritz and Khawaja for Harris and Punter.

But as Hauritz is persona non grata in the Australia Test XI, I say that Khawaja will replace Punter and that Beer will likely replace Harris.

There has also been talk of Ponting playing, dropping down to 6 and Khawaja replacing Harris with Smith becoming the #1 spinner.

Personally I'd prefer Hauritz in, but I think Beer will be in for Harris.

With our next Test series being in Sri Lanka in August, we need to play a spinner that will play there too... I think Smith would be the best option in Sri Lanka (Hauritz has been shown to be an Australia only spinner, with the slow and low sub-continent pitches not helping him at all)

talk is Khawaja will bat at 3 and ponting will drop back down the list, can't hurt the current number 3 ain't making too many runs

I thought Beer was picked in the squad for the Perth test because of his apparent knowledge of the wicket after a handful of games. If that was the case why wasn't Hauritz selected he is clearly the best spinner in Australia at the moment, i find it astounding that he has fallen out of favour with the selectors so much in such a short space of time. I think his figures with the bat and the ball speak for themselves this season 19 wickets at 26 and 332 runs at 47. What are the selectors thinking, if they were serious about winning the test match Hauritz should have been picked. Also think it's time to blood a new young quick cause it is quite clear that the ones we have aren't doing the job. Taking out the Perth test England have scored 1910 runs in four innings, does this not ring alarm bells

Ponting is out, Khwaja in at 3, Clarke is captain and Hilfy and Dougy are fighting for a spot and 1 will be replaced by Beer.

I find it amazing that Doug Bollinger is in the squad after he was dumped after the Adelaide test. What has he done since then to show he deserves a spot in the Test XII?

Wasn't the reason he was dumped because he was deemed unfit? Pretty funny considering he was told not to play and recover from an injury so the selectors knew he hadn't played cricket. Has he even played a game since Adelaide? Or maybe it's because he has knowledge of the ground.

My team using the 12 man squad
1. Watson (Needs to learn to call correctly. 3rd time this year he has run out his partner. Needs to convert his 50s to a few 100s)
2. Hughes
3. Khawaja
4. Clarke (In serious trouble if he doesn't have a good innings in this game.)
5. Hussey
6. Haddin (Should be captain instead of Clarke)
7. Smith
8. Johnson
9. Siddle
10. Beer (I would prefer Hauritz)
11. Hilfenhaus

I've heard the news and seen Punters press conference, but does anyone else think it seems pretty convenient? Has he seen his last test? Considering the bangladesh series will be scrapped so Sri Lanka in august will be our next test after this one, Punter will be nearly 37, so is the world cup going to be Punter's swan song?

Good luck to Clarke and co, would love to see us tie the series but can't see it happening, selectors havent taken any real gambles...

I think hussey would be better at 3 than usman, let him come in a little later

I would hate if that was his last test. He certainly deserves to leave on his own terms.
