I know it’s the rules , but if you lost a grand final with the last penalty you would have to give the game away . He was never going to score or get to that ball?
That is the problem with everything going upstairs, it gets slowed down and made to look far worse than it is.
Boyd was never going to score that try and it was clear even before replay that the dogs knocked it dead. Boyd was smart enough to jump up and complain, have the matter referred and get the penalty.
Terrible way for the game to end but technically a correct call.
Every fan of every team would blow up if that penalty went against them, just as every fan would be screaming for the penalty if their team was pushed. Purely objective. So when this happens, you use the rules. By the rules, it was the correct call.
Discretion probably should have been considered in this situation with the game on the line.
You see far worse go unpunished.
Being a referee is a tough job, damned if you do and damned if you don’t.
Old Darius played it well though. I have started to lose a bit of respect for him though, it seems every time he is tackled or involved in a play he throws the arms up appealing for a penalty. He is a much better player than that.

rules means it warrants a penalty, mbye hopefully has learnt his lesson, it was a stupid penalty to give away. Don't give a reason for the ref to blow the whistle and you shouldn't get penalised. we get angry at my own team when my players give stupid penalties away for example Kenny's brain snaps or mannah last week with the flop in the tackle.
Work meeting at ANZ Stadium today. Interesting to see what they do to prepair the field. Huge covers for irrigation in use. Appears to be blowing air under covers. Been here two days and been same both days.

This constant off the ball interference has ruined great aspects of the game like the chip and chase. Standing your ground in the defensive line and running shoulder to shoulder should be the only contact deemed legal. It is a part of the game that needs to be cleaned up.

I'm not sure but you might find it is to grow the grass.
I did a conference held out of the MCG and they have a similar looking system. I asked the groundsmen about it and they said it with artificial lighting / heat for those areas of the ground that are constantly in the shade to help the grass grow. Picture below:

1. How can Hurrell not get binned or even concede a penalty today for his blatant take out of Croker? With what we saw on Thursday night and no discretion used at all the inconsistencies are terrible.
2. I have to agree with Gus on the 7 tackle sets. The rule needs to be amended as a great attacking kick the just rolls dead or gets plucked out of the in goal shouldn't be penalised. The rule was brought in to stop the negative tactics and it can still be used to this effect with any kicks outside of the 40m subject to the 7 tackle set.
3. Salary cap concessions. How is it that the NRL still haven't brought in something that prevents clubs having their juniors pilfered. Surely a player that has come through your juniors and is playing first grade should be getting a 10% discount from the cap after 5 years? It is really disheartening to see clubs who have a good juniors program unable to keep their best.
