2019 NRL Glory Release Official Thread

Hope the cards are the same feel as elite 2018. Hope all future elite sets have the same feel to them as the elite 2018 cards are great with how they made them

I really, really, really hope NOT! The base cards were fine with the matt/satin finish but most of the inserts imo lost a LOT of "oomph" without a gloss finish - mojos especially (big time disappointment), same for the silver parallels. Further, as this set seems to be themed after 2008 Centenary, they should feel like that set too.

Cynically, I am thinking the matt/satin finish is cheaper (are there any printers to clarify?), so more profit when asking the same price as previous Elite releases.

Each to their own but I really liked the look and feel of the Elite 18. I think even the inserts are better that way as I prefer the matt finish over a gloss finish to me it just looks classier. But I've always chosen matt finish over gloss whenever I've had photos printed from holidays so I guess I've just always liked that look better

Only TLA would have Mogg, Woolford, Campese, Brett White and Alan Tongue as a greater chance of making the HoF than Brett Mullins

Edit: I see the period is actually 2008 onwards. I was thrown a bit as Sailor was there for the Broncos despite not playing for them since 2001 and Woolford for the Raiders when he left there in 2006.

Happy with Tongue but would have preferred Mullins, Croker (Jason), Furner and Belcher

Agree. The time period limit seems silly as a club like the Raiders are not well represented in the past 10 years compared to their history. I barely remember Brett White ever playing for us.

Definitely a storm legend. Wiki in the set also, more of a Raiders legend than a Warriors legend but will no doubt be in the Warriors strip

Agreed. And Finch is a funny one, he's placed with the Storm but was probably more or less even in terms of years played and games across his four clubs.

Penrith have the following players in this 2018 set:

5 Current players (which are good) +

Kevin Kingston
Tony Puletua
Frank Puletua
Trent Waterhouse
Rhys Wesser

Induction Class is:

Greg Alexander
Royce Simmons
Petero Civoniceva (Probably Broncos)

Out of the 2008 set the only player featured in the top 100 was Brad Fittler and he was primarily a Roosters players.

I would have preferred to have seen:

Mark Geyer
John Cartwright
Ryan Girdler
Craig Gower
Tony Puletua

Outside of the 13 base cards (5 current, 5 past players + 3 Inductions) there really isn't much more in this set for a Panthers fan to chase?

Puletua and Waterhouse (Future Famers insert) $5 to $10 each?
Tony Puletua Future Famers Signature #/420 (He has a Future Force auto already "Limited to 675") likely a $25 card.

Charter Class Brad Fittler & Petero Civoniceva (likely in other teams gear anyway).

I understand that other teams like the Dragons/Souths/Eels etc will have plenty to chase, but for me aside from the base cards I really don't have much interest in the product.

Just my thoughts.

I do think they could have pushed this product to a whole new level but get the feeling Wang has Ctrl C + Ctrl V from his spreadsheet in 2008 and added in a few different players that sounded familiar to him at the time.

I do guess if he is funding the product he can put in whomever he wants.

Cheers
Matt

Certainly light on for some teams like Penrith but at least there is a numbered hit and it is more than just base!

I think Centenary was the greatest release ever and I am glad there is not too much deviation from that release.

I am certainly glad there are no mojo’s and on the face a master set is very achievable but expensive.

I like these releases as they hold value, more so with Wangy holding stock. You can still get $40+ for 08 Centenary TOTC foil signatures. These are /600 and only foil, this more than you get for YG’s and LS’s from Elite.

I will reserve full judgement until I bust but glad that there won’t be mass secondary market dumps!!
