2016 Series II/Honours 3 Rumours and Ideas

I'd settle for the hallmark of any good series (think, 1996 & 2005)....rare, very rare, and bloody-hell-how-long-is-it-gonna-take-to-get-a-hold-of-that-one.

Guernseys card are...and this is strictly my own view...completely naff. It's no better than getting a bit of what might have been part of the Berlin wall but in all likelihood something lifted off a building site in Preston. Whose jumper? What game? I mean, really!? Yay, it's Collingwood and....oh, bugger me...it's the Emirates logo. Or worse, the AFL logo.

Are we not due for a hall of fame update?

And if we start taking cues from the NBA, like the rules committee, I think I'll vomit

I think you'd find Guernsey cards here will never be anything like the USA market. Their market is just saturated with patch cards with no real meaning over there. Here I think you'd find the cards would list the game the jumper was worn in, the game the ball was used it etc etc. And they would be limited and always numbered, therefore retaining value.

Since they seem averse to including Rising Stars in the first series, I really wish they would do something in the second series.

Happy to have random signatures as per last year if it means getting better players.

Guernsey cards don't do much for me, unless they are an additional insert. I certainly wouldn't want them in place of a signature card.

@Tazhawk considering all the players getting injured in their prime recently in the AFL I think you picked the wrong player to include as your Letterman example... Would've been an all time great if he didn't get injured.

Oh, and this is the NBA Logoman. Imagine the AFL logo in one of these... :hearts::hearts::hearts::hearts::hearts:

Select 2016 Footy Stars PLATINUM

Common cards 220 as usual and to particular emphasis on iconic guns whom have switched clubs as of 2016 and generally most depictions different to series 1 as usual. Will bet Adam Treloar will be one of the Magpies cards whilst Steve Johnson one of for GWS.

INSETS
  1. All Time Greats Gold (ATG1-220); 1 per pack
  2. All Time Greats Platinum (ATP1-220); individually numbered to 250
  3. Platinum Sketch cards (PSK1-36); 2 per club; 2 per box
  4. Premiership Predictors + Best & Fairest consultation Redemption (PP/BF1-18); 1 per Box
  5. All Australian (AA1-22); individually numbered to 450; 1 per Box
  6. Frontier Certified Signatures (FCS1-50); individually numbered to 200; 1 per Box
  7. Club Captains Platinum Patch (CCP1-25); individually numbered to 200; 1:72 packs
  8. 2015 Award Winners (AW1-5) individually numbered to 600; all 5 cards hit over 1 factory case
  9. Redemption cards; 1:288 packs (Match Worn Guernseys - 4 cards; unsigned #200 & signatures #50); (Triple Norm Smith Three-peat Signature #200; 1 card- Lake/Hodge/Junior)
  10. Club Captains Double Platinum Patch (CDP1-25); individually numbered to 50; 2 per factory case
Above is an idea of what I've come to conclusion in terms of how Series 2 will turn out. Just to clarify, the Club Captains jersey patch (in spite not particularly a fan of jersey concept but feeling quite sure there's gonna be one in next release simply because we're due for one for first time in 12 years) to be inclusive of cards depicting VICE captains along with preferred captains among clubs whom still maintain the preferred captain since 2012 when a similar inset concept was featured in 2012 Eternity. Not to mention co-captains to receive a separate card each also. Therefore following clubs with more than one CCP/CDP; Geelong (Selwood and whoever VC); Gold Coast (Ablett and Swallow); GWS (3- Ward, Davis and Shaw); Hawks (Hodge and whoever VC); North Melbourne (Swallow and whoever VC); Swans; (Jack and McVeigh)

Also, IMO, for the same old-same old series 2 traits, AA, AW and PR insets need to be within the ratios as listed above and individually numbered accordingly to make those never ending insets have SOME credibility for once! Yes I am a fan of the premiership redemption being reinstated to the 1:Box ratio hit with a consolation redemption for the remaining incorrect predictors, rather than one and only whole-slab search inset!

ps. Again just my guess at time of writing and happy to answer any further question regarding to above ideas. At the end of the day however, whatever the sell sheet will be, or whatever ideas other members have in this forum, nothing will ever be good enough for many as it looks.

I like the idea of having the rarer parallel numbered, would help it to keep value.

I see neither of the patches you have noted are signed. It seems general consensus that a patch is likely, however I would be surprised if they did it without a signed version

OK. I'll make an idea, though it's nothing like what I want it to be...

Find the AFL logo and piece of jersey in these cards, that will only contain one card ever made.
A set to keep everyone excited!

So, thoughts on my highly unlikely series 2 set idea?

Id heard jersey cards were being considered. I had a chat to someone in the know and mentioned it to them....and they genuinely seemed shocked that anyone may know or have heard about it.

Would be interesting if they do!

If there's one thing I don't want, it's cards limited to 1 or even anything less than 50. I think there was an NRL release maybe last year which had a special 1 of 1 card. It redeemed a framed jumper and a signature card IIRC. From what I read many team collectors just stopped collecting due to their inability to complete the set for their team.

I think the Honour Roll cards from last year's Honours 2 was just about perfect: very rare but you're not waiting months for them to appear. Everyone likes rare cards, but don't kill off all us team colectors!

Heard Jersey card are in the release a few weeks back. Seems to be a fair few whispers about them and a few names thrown but nothing in stone. Seems to be a lot of secrecy around the names, Asides from that, these jersey cards are meant to be something special (design or really nice patches?). What this all means I don't know, we are talking about Select after all lol.

I put In my ideas of rare cards for one reason: the excitement of breaking packs, and finding you've got a rare card in them!

Sure. I get why you think they'd be a nice addition to a set. But you can find one good reason for anything without looking at the other side. If for something the cons outweigh the the pros (as they did in that NRL release) then surely you don't do it?

It is getting to the stage where Select just need to have a go a at something...if it fails it fails but the current status quo isn't doing anyone any good.

OK, it now seems next to most certain jersey cards are inclusive in series 2, now just a matter of knowing how many and of what concept kind??? Would this mean 1 per 18 clubs with an unsigned variant of 1:72 pack ratio whilst actual singed version of 1:288 pack hit?

Alternatively the Match Word Guernsey signature could be just the same as the Award Winners Signatures plus the patches.

Now my final question is, will Select imitate US sports cards by incorporating BLUE ink signatures (bear in mind many NRL collectors could not stand blue signatures from last year's release) or will the beloved black ink still remain???

In terms of Red Ink suggested by you Gee, I would not mind seeing the Future Force Red variant signatures signed in red ink and to add to that, the red signatures ought to be a higher ratio box as 1:54 packs (1:3 boxes) whilst a new inset concept to take place at 1:18 packs IMO.
