2012 AFL Off-Season Thread

Wow mate are you one of the AFL investigators? Didn't think they had ruled on a decision yet. crows won't get a harsh penalty at all. Just wait for the investigation to finish and you will be wiser. Do you really think they wanna set a massive precedent for when they go snooping into other clubs? A quick slap on the wrist is all they will get.

I hope you also call Carlton, fremantle, North Melbourne and collingwood cheats as well. As you might not know it yet but they have been doing the dirty with outside player payments as well.

Who do you support by the way?

Eh? Sorry i don't really get your drift mate? Never said anything about a ruling being made. Just thought it was a real smart move by Adelaide given their current predicament.

In terms of precedences, i thought Carlton circa 2002 would be the most apt. Systematic salary cap rorts and slapped with 2 years of draft penalties + fines. The way i figure it, Adelaide doesn't really have a leg to stand on since Blucher leaked the previous contract. Given Adelaide only has one pick in the top 50 in a heavily compromised draft, it'd be in their best interest to give up their first and second round picks this year, especially with a list hitting its straps and not really needing an injection of youth. Then probably hope to hell that they aren't served with a significant penalty like carlton's which set them back years...

Yeah, agree with you RE the 3rd party payments... Can't believe Carlton have gotten away with it for so long. Don't think that investigation however will influence the Adelaide penalty because the arbitration board is meant to be independent from the AFL... Plus it's probably a move just to tighten up the salary cap loop holes because of the new free agency rules.

Every football club is guilty of it in one way or another. Where I used to work they got Broncos players Shane Webke and Dane Carlaw to do promo's and advertising and payed them off with gifts. I.e BBQ,s, Tools renos on there house you name it.

Dayle Garlett set to train with Essendon next week.

Cant believe he slipped through and didnt get picked up. He is still a kid, he will make mistakes, thats just part of life. If a club picked him and gave him some tough love, then im sure he would come right. Put him in a club with the right culture and he will be fine. An absolute bargain pick for any club that drafts him now. And surely he will get picked, hell if no-one else wants him id gladly welcome him into the Hawks :)

Tippett and his manager are lying dogs, of course they knew what was in his contract. His penalty is a joke, 11 matches, come on. That just means he gets to keep his body fresh for the first half and come onto the scene half way through the season, just in time to get match fit for finals, thats just wrong. The AFL really annoy me, didnt Carlton do the same thing and get smashed by the AFL for it? AFL have dished out some of the worse double standards ive even seen in sport, sometimes their decisions are just crazy. Tippett should not be playing in 2013, for any club. And on another note, has he proven himself to be worth the money he is asking? I know key forwards are highly sort after, but come on, this guy hasnt really even done anything yet. What do you guys think? Am i being harse coz i dont like the guy, or am i being fair?

I mentioned this in another thread but, he has proven nothing except he will burn anyone to get $$$. It shocks me Sydney, a team who I think to have the most team orientated, love the jumper culture want this guy, absolutely speechless they will pay him more than every premiership winning player from this year. Oh well let them spend $3.5mill and at the end of that see if they got value for money.
He does not deserve to still come out mega rich, but will. Right place at the right time.

I believe Adelaide was still under the cap, they disclosed to the AFL, they dropped their picks from this year, I believe all these helped to lessen their penalty.
My idea of a penalty for cheats is lowering their cap for a year or two, giving a club a fine is a waste, as money is easy to come by for a big club, but dropping the cap, that would hurt.

Seems Tippett will get what he wants.

Hahahahahaha.....that is classic....I cant believe the Swans would pay that sort of money. What type of message does it send to their other up and coming forwards. "thanks, but we dont think you are going to be any good"

Sheedy is funny the way he takes the piss, he does it in a very complimentary style and it cracks me up. I agree Mike, Sydney are going to piss alot of their premiership players off with this. Its way too much money for a guy that has done nothing yet, it really is sending the wrong message to all the other Sydney players. How do you think Sam Reid is feeling right now? Will this unsettle the swans next year?
