Hopefully the selection of Dan Christian in the Text XII shows that the new NPS is going to pick the guys in form, the ones performing in the Sheffield Shield. I'd be surprised if he gets picked in XI unless Bellerive is an absolute road.

Australian cricket wunderkind Patrick Cummins won't rule out appearing in the Test series against India despite learning he has a bone stress injury in his heel.

The teenage paceman's injury was first diagnosed as heel bruising but Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said new scans have revealed a more serious bone stress problem, and he's unlikely to resume bowling until early to mid-January.

That means Cummins will miss the first two Tests against India in Melbourne and Sydney and the odds are against him playing the third Test at the WACA from January 13-17 with the fourth Test at Adelaide Oval from January 24-28 more of a possibility.

Cummins told reporters on Wednesday he didn't have a date for his return to cricket but he aimed to play the subsequent one-day and Twenty20 series against India and possibly even some Test cricket.

"Hopefully the one-day series and the Twenty20," he said.

"Maybe I'll even be back in the Test."

Cummins incurred the injury while thrilling cricket fans with his seven-wicket debut in last month's second Test against South Africa in Johannesburg.

He played down concern about the more serious diagnosis and was planning to rest until Christmas time, when he will again test out his heel.

"It will only make a few weeks difference," said Cummins.

"We thought there might have been something more to it because it took a bit longer to heal.

"Obviously it's disappointing but hopefully it doesn't make too much of a difference."

Cummins said playing for his country on home soil would be a surreal experience, acknowledging the blow of missing the Boxing Day Test when the eyes of the nation are on the MCG.

"Every year I look at it I get the nerves watching the batsmen go out to a packed crowd, to be a part of that one day would certainly be special," he said.

He described the hiatus as a mini off-season.

"At the start of every season you come back hungrier and hopefully that's the case.

fair point on rogers and klinger but will their shield form translate into test success? if we are looking at players of this age, then surely katich is a shoo in, but we all know where that story ends :rolleyes:
 
It's not great news about Cummins, but I'm glad they are looking after the kid and not breaking him. We will be seeing this kid still bowling in 8-10 years. So if the need to nurse him through the summer I'm happy with that. It would seem
He has a great mentor in Brett Lee, and he seems to have a fairly positive outlook.
 
Hughes in on his last legs... His Technique is AWFUL... It's horrendous at best for a top order test batsman... he needs to go back to NSW and work on the technique and fking learn how to use his feet properly!!! They have to be careful with him though, change things to much and he'll be more useless then he is now, get it right and he could be the next Langer!!!!

That's a big out for NZ.....Vettori is their best player by a mile.

Very big out!

Vettori is clearly the Kiwi's best bowler and their most dependable batsmen (McCullum, Ryder and Taylor might be better, but none are dependable at all)
 
Geez is it surprising that the kiwis have worked Hughes out and have almost everyone but the bowler and keeper in slips? All of his runs were off the edge through the 8 fielders.

And as i'm typing he is gone - caught in slips. Bye bye Hughes.
