Yeah, a shock to see France go out in the group stages. I was happy to see South Korea go through, been a fan of their play for a while. The New Zealand group gets interesting for most of us now. I'm not sure whether I want the Kiwis to knock out the Italians, or the other was around. The natural competitiveness between Australia, and the fact we got rorted by Italy last Cup, makes me want New Zealand to win. But I've got too many kiwi friends and family (through marriage), who must be just WAITING to sink the boot in if Australia bows out and NZ progresses... Hmm... decisions, descions!

Also from the other night, I can't help but be impressed by the Portugese. But I do feel the way they kept pushing for goals in the last 10 minutes was a bit un-sporting! With the competition points everyone in the group is on, they could've stopped at 4 or 5 goals. Goal difference isn't going to impact where they finish against Brazil, and they would've still had a HEALTHY lead against Ivory Coast. In competitions where everyone is at LEAST able to compete, I don't mind "running up the score" so much. If you're an NBA/NBL/NRL team, you should be able to compete talent-wise most nights. But North Korea basicly snuck into the Cup, in what is a weaker Confederation, and get absolutely POUNDED by the World #3 team.

Yeah i think i want NZ to do well, I know we are like natural rivals we dont really have a competitive rivaly with soccer yet so Im happy for them to do well.

so interesting scenario tonight, we basically need either Germany to thrash or Ghana to win narrowly and we need to win 3-0 to be safe but even more would be better...

I have a bad feeling to be honest

So, fellas. Which Aussie are we picking for a red card today? ;) lol! On a possitive note, if we make it through, it looks like we'd be up against the United States, who after tonights games took the top position in their group over England.

i think we should hold our heads high after the display this morning..

As the SBS panel were saying, obviously, the Germany game killed us on goal difference but have recovered well. They bring up a good point as well, Why should we fear the big nations such as England, Brazil, Spain, Germany etc, if we go in negative we have just about no chance, look at NZ, they went in to the Italy game trying their very best and came out with a draw, Switzerland went in trying their very best as well and they beat Spain... It is just the Positive Mentality.

This game though- From start to finish we were attack, attack, attack. I like this because our team suits a fast bulid-up and it paid off with the goals... And great goals, Timmy Cahill on the head and what a finish from Holman. Unlucky with the last goal though, Schwarzer did have a good game though!

Go the Socceroos in Brazil!

By the way, is anyone else in the ninemsn tipping comp? I picked USA to win their game, which they did. But the clods have the score up as Algeria 1, US 0, when it was really the other way around, and have put a cross next to my tip! Also had England, Germany and Australia winning their games, so I SHOULD be 4 for 4 from the nights play...

Yeah, have to agree. Schwartzer's got us out of many a scrap, and done as well as could be expected this time around. That first game wasn't his fault, the attempted offside traps failing miserably is what done us in, in addition to Cahill's red card. We could've brought on Kewell and pushed for a draw before that red. When it happened, there wasn't much we could do about attack...

yeah exactly, and as i was saying before, the offside trap is effective if you have a young energetic defence, the average age of ours is around 32.
