The Future of AFL Card Collecting

I am a collector so although value of some cards is a nice benefit, it’s not my main aim. I do still think there are certain cards that overtime will hold their value regardless of the amount of cards out there. Hall of fame Legend signatures, Captain signatures, both iconic. Supremacy...

The Future of AFL Card Collecting

Hi all. Really interesting reading in this thread. Just wanted to add my really useless 2 cents into the mix. Just some random thoughts I thought I would get into words about why I left. I was a team collector all my life (and still trying to backfill some missing cards), but left the hobby...

The Future of AFL Card Collecting

After yesterday's Legacy news and a big 2024 from Select, I went to bed last night thinking about what the future looks like, specifically regarding many of our PCs. Over the past 12 months I've seen some cards that sit proudly in my PC be slashed in value. Dustin Martin Showstopper for one...

    1X hobby of 2022 Bowman

Yeah they really smash people who mention losing or complain about their other gambles, the cherry pies! I have been much better now just stopping breaking and going straight to ebay and putting down what i would have spent on some singles. Been buying up all the Verdugo's I can as well. I...

    1X hobby of 2022 Bowman

I got a bit optimistic. The same card /75 just went at auction for $100AUD. Given that postage to the US is $29 I'd have to have the card at $65AUD max. I'll hang onto it at that price since I'll get around $50 after ebay takes its cut - 13.8% of $65+$29+$10( GST)+$2( international fee.) And...

    Things that piss me off

I'm not in the market of selling my cards for 0.99c haha If it was the US, I'd probably auction every card

Getting collection valued for insurance purposes

Insurance is very problematic with card collections as they need to be very well documented and photographed etc and your home and contents insurer will raise ur premiums accordingly and in todays market that’s super expensive. I have a friend whose collection is probably valued, we all value...

ShipMyCards - USA Address and Shipping Service

Brilliant stuff and spot on. Ha ha. It might become cheaper down the line to fly to the US and load up on cards if you're buying to sell. It does make it pretty rough on us hobbyists who already get ebay skimming, then PayPal, then the exchange rate, and now more tax. It gets a bit ridiculous.

In in this situation with Luis Rodriguez. Could have sold his Orange for huge amounts when I hit it. Now he was on the verge of getting dumped from Low A and I was willing to accept base auto prices just to get it gone. Now he's back, on a heater hitting like a madman and could move up in...

    1X hobby of 2022 Bowman

Good stuff. Normally I would not target a guy with that stat line. However, his age is a huge appeal but you're still betting on him figuring it out. I snagged a purple auto RV on comc last night! He's cheap and it's not terrible given that he's 18 in Low A. Hopefully he has a strong finish to...

    Things that piss me off

I still can't sell to Sydney which probably makes up 40% of the OZ market. They've never fixed it despite me trying to get them to fix it. Had another guy text me this morning wanting to buy a $100 card but the system won't allow it. Ebay suggested starting from scratch with a new account...

    PSA Returns 2023

Check this out mate - has a heap of bugs but it's a free app (DeadCenter.App) and with a bit of elbow grease in terms of repositioning the 'boundary markers' it works quite well. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.deadcenter.free20&hl=en_AU&gl=US ..and make sure you microfibre...

    PSA Returns 2023

For most cards I'm going with PSA but yeah I will do BGS for others where I want the sub-grades AND if I think the card will look better with that gold or potential black label. If it's PC it doesn't really matter about resale value but if there's a chance I might sell one day then it's a...

    Does anybody sell on ebay?

The problem is facebook groups have taken so many people away from ebay and from here. IF you sell on ebay, you might want to put a printout coupon saying your handle here and you also trade and sell on this domain. Im not sure of how many years this board as been up as if you go off the...

    State of the Hobby

I had stuff sit in my COMC account for months not moving, no matter what discount I put on it. 50, 60, 70% - nothing moved until I did a port sale and got rid of everything at a decent loss. Just wanted to move them and put any funds into something else. Some stuff sits on eBay for ages, and I...

    Things that piss me off

I listed an auto of a no name player for $10 AU posted ($6 for the card + post), and someone offered $5 posted, so $1 for the card + post. His reasoning was that they go for $1 on US eBay. It does get annoying when people make offers and they don't consider the exact costs. Such as: 1. US...

    Brilliance is coming

Thanks for posting. Boxes will definitely sell for over $500 at some stage in the future.

    Brilliance is coming

Brilliance boxes are only selling for $430-450 FYI. On eBay there’s been $70 vouchers. A few of us collectors are still chasing some specific players and specific numbers. So we’ve started group non profit breaks which will always be non profit n brilliance only. Box costs $430 break makes $430...

    State of the market!

I actually sold 5 higher end cards on US ebay just before Christmas and sales were very strong and $20-40 AUD to ship them tracked and signature and all arrived within 6-12 days which was good considering ut was the lead up to Christmas. Will probably move some more stuff once Feb rolls around.

    2022 NRL Elite review

Thanks for that. That makes perfect sense. Sellers are getting stiffed then. I'm a 52 year old f....wit who can barely operate a computer and it would not have occured to me to ditch the word hobby when searching. The ebay search function is BS if it can throw someone off the scent just by...

    Things that piss me off

Most likely the people who are sending him product know the code and are sending loaded boxes or he buys cases and mostly breaks the ones with the code( occasionally breaks a crap one to throw folks off the cent - but not you Iron, you're onto him, haha) and sells the others off. This is a...

    Is ebay hacked?

Sounds like you need a new trading card marketplace... We've just launched a trading card marketplace called MERQARY.com. We're operating in a completely different way to eBay. Below you can see that we charge a monthly membership fee. One of the key things with our plans are that we call...

    Panini Photogenic - Thoughts?

Last I looked (earlier this week) there were still a few selling for $250 US but yes, prices have gone up for this stuff while they're coming down for pretty much everything else.
