All those with knee problems come out of the woodwork and give me some advice.

Rhys,
I assume this is a biomechanical prob as you'd made no mention of past trauma or physical loads you put on it each day ie sport and work. What would be more helpful is to tell me when you get the pain, be it in knee flexion, extension, bending down to ehlp the kids, doing stairs etc. Also need to know whether the pain is front, back or either side, in the morning/evening or whether time of the day doesn't change it.
GP will either X-ray, prescribe anti-inflammatories/pain killers or send you on. I suggest you get a biomechanical assessment by Chiro, Physio or podiatrist. Often clicking is caused by the knee cap not tracking evenly in the groove it's supposed to be in or can be overtight tissue flicking over a bony prominence.
Hope that gives you a start on it. PM if you need to know more
Workwise i'm a produce manager at woolies most mornings i pack down around 6 pallets of fruit and veg and spend the rest of the day working it all. Has osgood schlatters when i was younger so always had persistent pain in my knees. As of late though it has gotten quite bad. Right knee is continual pain and clicking the left is continual pain in and around the knee and up the outside continuing to just above the knee.

Saw the doctor yesterday. From playing with them and having a look he thinks the Patella is rubbing against another bone and the same sort of thing is happening in my left knee along with some muscles getting pulled around. He also found that my left knee is a lot weaker (he was holding the knee and moving the leg side to side). He wants an MRI but Medicare will not compensate for that unless i see a specialist first so got some x-rays yesterday and booked into a specialist in two months. So lots of painkillers between now and then i reckon.

- 6ft and 96kg - i'd say you are overweight. this actually gives you a BMI of 29 - overweight
Bmi can kiss my arse.

I was going to say the clicking could be due to lack of cartelege or worn down cartelege - I know that's my issue with my knees. As to the BMI.... that goes by the average body shape and density. Not everyone has the same body shape or density. My neighbour is 6 foot exactly and weighs in at about 96 kg, but you wouldn't know it to look at him - nor does he do weights. I've know people who were shorter and heavier but weren't at all over weight - just naturally stocky.
