back on the jamie lyon subject, did the eels get reimbursed for the remainder of lyons unfulfilled contract? and regardless of the way lyons left ( told his team mates he was leaving), still can't see how this belies the arrogance of this player or any other for thinking he is bigger than his club or the game. a walker is still a walker.

Preston Campbell to retire.
very sad news for the game. made my blood boil when they asked kimmorley what he thought on foxsports, and of course he offered his opinion like anyone gives a ****. for kimmorley to give an opinion on a player that him and anderson forced out, and to give an opinion on a player that had more talent in his little toe than kimmorley had in his whole body, without acknowledging this fact, is just pure arrogance. preston was a legend and his shafting at the sharks was a blight on the game

Good summary from the Sunday Tele today.

Here’s a rundown of where your club sits in relation to recruitment and retention.

BULLDOGS

BRONCOS
Minimal movement after signing Queensland icon Petero Civioniceva and upgrading their talented crop of juniors.

RAIDERS
Chief executive Don Furner is trying to extend Jarrod Croker and Blake Ferguson beyond the end of next season, while David Milne, Josh Miller and Danny Galea face an uncertain future.

SHARKS
Expected to cut a number of players, including former Dally M rookie of the year Tim Smith, Broderick Wright, Paul Aiton, Dean Collis and Stuart Flanagan. In discussions to retain Ben Pomeroy.

TITANS
Have already lost Nathan Friend, Anthony Laffranchi and a host of others as they reshape for next season.

SEA EAGLES
Coach Des Hasler is confident prop Rose, Tony Williams, local junior Vic Mauro and Joe Galuvao will all remain on the northern beaches.

KNIGHTS
Cameron Ciraldo, Steve Southern and Shannon McDonnell are on the outer, with Cuthbertson expected to be a new arrival.

COWBOYS
Signed Roosters centre Kane Linnett to replace Willie Tonga last week.

STORM
Backrower Todd Lowrie looks likely to be squeezed out to accommodate the return of Ryan Hoffman.

DRAGONS
Adam Cuthbertson expected to follow Bennett to Newcastle.

WARRIORS

TIGERS

EELS
Will announce the signature of Willie Tonga once they have worked enough salary cap room.

RABBITOHS
Fullback Rhys Wesser tipped to retire, prop Ben Ross wants to continue and may remain at the Rabbitohs, while rookie winger rookie Kane Morgan is on the outer.

PANTHERS
Masada Iosefa, Yileen Gordon, Adrian Purtell and Tim Winitana are chasing new deals.

Roosters players have been busted breaking alcohol ban last night.

Good to see the culture improving at the place.

Update - sorry no prizes for guessing who was involved

ROOSTERS officials have launched an investigation into reports that star trio Nate Myles, Todd Carney and Frank-Paul Nu'uausala broke a team booze ban in the early hours of this morning.

The Daily Telegraph has learned that a cab driver phoned the club earlier today to inform officials of a fare they hailed between a Double Bay hotel and an Oxford St pub late last night.

The players have been contacted and are expected to be questioned later today.

The latest drama to beset the Bondi club comes just over a week after the entire team agreed to embark on a fortnight-long alcohol ban, in the wake of concerns from the senior player group over deteriorating off-field behaviour.

The story will be detailed as more comes to hand.

SBW & Gaz are totally different, for one Gaz left at end of season...
Gasnier had 3rd party contracts with CH9 which were approved by Eddie Maguire, once Eddie left the new CEO canned the 3rd party deals, StGeorge was willing to pay them but the NRL said NO as it would be included in the cap, because this money was not forthcoming from CH9, Gasnier had financial commitments that would not be meet, the club was happy to release him so he could make that money back, so he left with the clubs approval, futher more Gasnier has always stayed at Saints for unders, he could have earnt more, but his loyalty to the Dragons kept him there, yes he was still highly paid, he left for France made a **** load of money was able to pay off his financial commitments and invest, he came back to the Dragons again on lesser money for the first 2 years and he would have been paid more the next 2 years but he has decided to retire...
Now to Smith/Costigan/Saffy, JSmith was offered a 3 year deal on very good money by the Sharks, Bennett told him to take the deal as it gave him security and an extra 2 years in the NRL, remembering that JSmith was a late developer and it's only been the last few years where he has made money.... Costigan was offered $250,000 by Newcastle he literally signed straight away but again the Dragons were offering closer to $180,000, same as Saffy got offered $260,000+ to go BACK to union, again the Dragons were not offering anywhere near that, Bennetts philosophy is to build a deep squad with good depth, so he basically offers players a little bit less to spread the money around.... There was an article in the paper saying that JSmith etc were dirty on Gasnier etc, funny that when we played the Sharks at Kogarah which was Gasniers last game there, the last player to leave from the Dragons dressing room was JSmith who was hanging out with Gasnier....

That's one way of looking at the Gaznier debacle... The other way is that the Saints got an International Quality Player back for a song on a back loaded contract to help them win a premiership... And now he has helped them to it, He is going!!
Almost as big a Salary Cap rort as Melbourne!!

Which bit is the salary cap rort? backloading contract, if thats your definition of a rort, then unfortunaly we may as well cancel the premiership as ALL clubs do it and still do it and will keep doing it as it is LEGAL.. What the Storm did was ILLEGAL....

What I am referring to is in fact that the Dragons got a class player back last year for Nothing on the premise he had a back loaded contract...
Now the Back loading wont happen, So effectively the dragons got a star player back to help with thier campaign at 1/4 of his market worth...
Sounds like a rort to me!!

umm if your going to make a statement at least make sure it's factual... He has on $120,000 last year, not Nothing, for playing approx 40%(if not less) of a season.. He was on decent coin this year and would have been on more the following two seasons... If your saying that i.e he is worth say $400,000 a season and we only paid him say $250,000, and then thats a rort again call the comp off, as eg D.Lockyer contract is $250,000, because he is happy to play for less at the Bronco's and make the money up in 3rd party sponsorship's, just like Gasnier who has heaps of 3rd party sponsors....

Seriously do we need to start a separate thread for you two on this issue. You have been going back and forward for nearly 2 weeks. :p:lol:

It's not my fault that people are misinformed and like to sprout B/S, i will correct it...
