The issue for RU is thus:
* They are reigning in costs - ie player wages
* They are introducing a salary cap for Super 15

For RL, the IC is on the horizon. A NEW TV deal to be entered in to. New Revenue streams to be explored and cap flexibility to come in - proposed. The cap will increase and increase further by all accounts. I believe the plan is to make enough money to get the cap to $7million per club. This is about $2.5-$3m increase AND with a higher minimum wage so ALL the new money doesn't go straight to the Top 50 players.

If they also get flexibility in the 3rd party deals, even more $$$.

So, the RU players are hedging their bets and playing wait and see. If RL gets its house in order, and more money comes in to the game - hell, even with an increased cap for 16 teams AND increased minimum wage for the players, not only will RU lower level players switch, some of the big hitters will come across.

It makes sense, if you are a professional to see where it goes and not sign long term. Hence one-two year deals springing up.

As for Easts getting the players...I guess we'll see.

I will also add that I have heard that certain RU players have signed up to a RL side for 2013. This will occur with the new TV deal, increased cap, etc under the new IC RL. Will be absolutely massive if it is true as the prodigal son returns. This story has been floating around for a while but a couple of very good sources say it is true.

I suppose by prodigal son you mean the guy who turned his back on your club and in a cowardly act snuck out mid contract and mid season abondoning all his team mates in the process?

That being said you might be right seeing as it seems he is only signing a one year contract after the world cup, probably with the Aukland Blues, but in reality league will never match the money of Union, no matter what the next round of TV rights brings in and it seems to me he is motivated by the mighty dollar. He and Quade Cooper are good mates so they would be a exciting double act.....although Cooper would need SBW to help him defend.

Still with Toulon offerring him 1.5 million a year I can't see it ever happenning.

Bulldogs aren't my team.

And I hardly see it as a cowardly act. People quit jobs all the time, never come back and don't tell their work mates. Life goes on. The only one who seems to think Joe Public cares is Danny Weidler.

I care. It was a complete act of bastardy.

People quit there jobs but they are usually not under contract, being payed $500K+ and sneak out of the country. All just to chase more money at the urging of Anthony Mundine.

$BW should never be allowed back in the NRL again.

Care all you like, SBW won't be upset. I'm over it. There are far worse things that happen in the world AND people wish to cling to some notion that sportsmen are loyal, and should do it for their mates. LOL. If you wanted to leave your job and just walk out and not go back, well...so be it. Just because he made $500k a season is no reason why he can't. If another business offered me double the money, I'd leave right now.

LOL - I actually felt more like this about Gasnier leaving and coming back, and now leaving again.

No problem with him leaving but be a man and have some balls to tell the Dogs what your doing.

At least Gaz told the Dragons where he was with things.

I loved the drama of it all. Weidler milked it for all it is worth.

And I loved the Bulldogs...being so moral and up-right, talking about standards and integrity. LOL!

Your missing the point. He had a contract. Here's a tip. If you have a contract and leave your emplyment . You aint starting somehwre else unless your previous employer agrees. Hence the Bulldogs getting copmensated.

GASNIER and SBW--no comparison, your comparing apples with oranges.
