How much is your whole card collection worth?

Not to harp on about it because it's been said a few times on this thread but to me my collection is priceless. 22 years in the making and I'm still not done. I mean seriously who wants 5000 Chicago Cubs cards from the 80's 90's all the way to now? yes there's some "valuable" ones in there but if I was to even try and sell them only a Cubs collector would buy them and that could take a long time. I'm a firm believer in the fact that your cards are only worth what a fellow collector will pay for them.

Going off eBay and by just keeping a keen eye on what these cards sell for I would say my collection across NBA and MLB would be worth 15-17k...........maybe.

I collect Cubs cards too. I just got a box the other day in a trade and it put me over 1100. They were a bunch of oldies too like Sandberg, Dawson and Grace. A few newer ones too.

But on topic. I really have no clue as I have thousands of cards. My Marbury collection is not replaceable but Id probably be lucky to get 3-4 hundred for it. As for the rest maybe another few hundred. Maybe a 1000 altogether if i am lucky haha

One important thing to note is your catalogue should be somewhere offsite. Sometimes people create the odd Access database and fail to realise that if the house burns down the PC is probably going to go with it and hence the catalogue proving your collection existed goes up in smoke. Either have a fire-proof safe to store your evidence in or if you're using a database, use an online one if feasible. I have mine on a MySQL database linked to my website and I take frequent backups and store them on both my home and office PC. Never can have enough proof.

Thanks for the tip. I had thought of that and will prob keep a thumb drive at mum and dads

Well in response to all the suggestions here I contacted RACQ again today and inquired about insurance for collections. They advised I could specify the collection on my contents policy which ATM gives me 25K cover only in the home for the extra cost of $12.00 from now till my policy is renewed in November. Will go thru work out a guestimate price for replacement (just thought I will have to factor in pages and premium sleeves into the mix as well) and adjust as necessary.

Great thread, glad it came up.

Honestly I would love to protect my investment but two problems arise, first I have found that most insurance companies won't insure a 'collection' (now define collection...........lol), secondly, in the Australian trading card market we lack a 'Beckett' type company to value a card, individually some of my cards are very low in value BUT the price takes off in leaps and bounds when you look at the overall structure / framework of the PC. Currently I am with RACQ insurance, they will not insure my trading cards and they won't say why.............? I will though give some consideration to the value of each album in my sport / non-sport PC to see where we are headed.

Stay tuned.

RACQ wont even payout if your house is flooded in QLD......let alone cover a card collection.
