ONE to relaunch with entertainment in May

TEN has confirmed it will relaunch ONE in May with more entertainment.

The sports-channel will now inclue a mix of entertainment and sports aimed at males aged 25-54.

It will include a mix of premium sport plus additional drama, movies, and factual. Many will be in HD.

First run titles include Ricky Gervais’ An Idiot Abroad, Terriers, Lights Out, Breakout Kings, Everest.

It will also air Sons of Anarchy, new episodes of COPS, Airline, Long Way Round, plus shows that have already aired including Ice Road Truckers, Extreme Fishing with Robson Green

AFL, Moto GP and Formula One will remain on ONE.

The move follows the exit of sports boss David White and the failure of the channel to attract significant numbers on an on-going basis.

‘‘The bold, broad appeal of TEN along with the already proven performance of the distinctly youthful ELEVEN and now with the broader content offering for the male-skewed ONE positions us to capitalise on viewer and advertiser engagement,’’ chief programming officer David Mott said.

ONE has been trialling entertainment shows for many weeks and noticing an increase in its audience.

“We found that has already boosted our audience with a 27% share jump in those timeslots, so we know there is an appetite for this,” a TEN spokesperson told TV Tonight.

“Where we have things in full HD we will play them in full HD.”

Entertainment will air Monday – Fridays, with sport on weekends. ONE is aspiring to a 2.5% share with its new line-up.

TEN will also launch The Bolt Report, hosted by Andrew Bolt on May 8 on Sundays at 10am. Meet the Press will be move to 10.30am.

The announcements come on a day when TEN reported “unacceptable” half year results of
group earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) before Non-Recurring Items was $106.0 million, down 9.8 per cent on the prior corresponding period.

Interim CEO, Lachlan Murdoch said: “The half year results are not acceptable and
immediate action is already underway to address them. Disappointingly for TEN’s 1300 employees and 22,500 shareholders, these results do not demonstrate TEN’s underlying strengths and potential.”

“TEN is at a crucial juncture in its history. Free-to-air television is an excellent business with strong growth prospects. However, TEN has been under-delivering and this must change.”

“Importantly, this change has already begun.”

Its been slowing going down the toilet lately. Showing sports movies at first, then going onto other movies. Also showing Ice Road Truckers etc.

Hopefully they keep NBA games live, as well as the other sports.

I dont mind if they show movies but if its at the expense of live sport then no.

For me, if there is no NBA it will mean no ONE HD for me.

The move follows the exit of sports boss David White and the failure of the channel to attract significant numbers on an on-going basis.

If I could get reception for any of Ten's channels I'd watch it more often.

Any word on what their finals coverage will be like? Think I'm just gonna have to stream what I wanna see I guess..

Whoa! Don't go messin with those elite ice truckers! They are the highest standard of sporting ppl around! You know how hard it is to keep your hands warm in those conditions ;) ;)

nba and nbl will be coming off the books. same with nfl and mlb. there is just not enough demand for it unfortunately.

I think hair regrowth and heavy metal concerts aren't high priority for sports viewers either. Man they thrash those ads.
This is very disappointing considering it was off air for years and hasn't been back for very long. Back to streaming I guess, wait, I have to anyway.

exactly. i think we should just ditch australia and move to america where we can have nba at our doorstep and not be at the whim and mercy of corporate tv giants with more dollars than sense.

Man I hope they keep the TNT NBA double headers on Fridays!!!! Well at least I have ESPN and now with ESPN2, they showing more NBA :D

they need to keep the nfl!! they also need to get the nhl...why cant australia just have a sporting channel for once...yeah, put movies on but dont get rid of the sport.

maybe we should all rally together and contact One HD expressing our disgust in ditching the sports, its not fair for those who can't afford paytv or might not be able to get to see sport on the net etc, and rely on One HD as their only option it stinks, had a feeling it wouldn't be around for long

What a joke!!!!! If they do ditch stuff like the NBA games then they are pathetic.... more people will go back to Foxtel to get their NBA fix. I don't really watch it as I have League Pass, but I think it's still very important to keep as to promote the game more in Aus.

Horrible idea! The NBA and NFL airing on One HD is the only reason I have my TV hooked up to my antenna... Back to downloading games I guess..

The problems also began when they stopped showing college football and baskteball games. Those added value to the station too.

Also I am not surpirsed cause the same dude has a stake in fox sports, so he would rather people PAY to watch then get it for free. This is what killed basketball in the 90s in Australia.

Complete and utter ****! As a few people have said...we waited for such a lont time for something like one HD and now they want to turn it mainstream viewing. What isnt one HD our 24 hour sports channel??? I told the missus we r getting rid of Austar because the only reason i wanted it was cos of the NBA and AFL but once OneHD came in i couldnt see the sence in paying for austar to watch as many games as i could on free to air. Australia really struggles with this crap, free to air is a big dick tease with showing it for a couple of months then plugging the best things on it. If i was Darren Hintch i would be saying "Shame, Shame, Shame Australia"

Disappointing. What OneHD should of done, as with all free tv channels in my opinion is made them accessible through the foxtel box. I know, at least in WA, if your foxtel is run through cable this is the case, but not through satellite.
When I'm channel surfing, its pretty rare that I'm going to switch from my foxtel to free to air to have a look.
