hi all, just for something different (i think football did this not long ago) for people who have played our wonderful game, lets talk injuries we have all sustained!
ill start:
back when i was 26 (11 years ago!) i was playing local comp Agrade and was out on the fastbreak went up above the rim for a nice 2 handed slam and was "tunneled" by the oppositon player! landed with me right hand out and crushed it...
i got up and my right hand was bent around on a 90 degree angle and the top of my hand/wrist had a lump the size of a softball on it...
yep you guessed it, fractured wrist in 8 places and displacement of the radius, no pain for about 10 mins then it felt like my arm had been set alight, nice and painful the orthepedic surgeon got me straight up to theatre and they knocked me out and "moulded it all back into place" surprisingly i didint get pins and plates, apparently there were too many loose bone fragments lol...
6 weeks in plaster and supposed to "bum around and do nothing" i go back to the orthepedic surgeon they do a scan and i need it "remoulded" day surgery cast off and they reset it all and another 6 weeks in plaster, except this time the plaster is from myfinger tips to my shoulder, locked in a right angle at my elbow, probably the most uncomfortable 6 weeks of my life...
6 weeks past and all good, healed ok apparently except when i get my cast off my forearm is half the size of my left forearm, plus i have a nasty staf infection becasue i was allergic to the lining under the cast, so potent anti biotics and inti inflammitires i had to take and a strange thing happened, when taking the tablets i felt tired and ke falling asleep, which shouldnt be happening, the hospital i foun out gave me the wrong tablets, should have been anti inflammitires i got instead anti sea sick tablets, and they reacted strangley with the anti biotics! real proffesional on the hospitals behalf...
anyway my right wrist isnt as good as it used to be about 80% rotation now and arthritis which according to the "roles royce of orthepdeic surgeons" who i saw in melbourne is a great result!!! easy for them to say!!!
