I can finally live up to my user name.!!

exhaust and air-intake will get you very minor power.. VERY minor. waste of money i think. how much is a decent/good exhaust system with high flow cat and header/extractors. around 2g? how much is a proper cold air intake and piping.. 800 - 1g? and then later on finding out that the computer automatically changed the fuel ratio of the car because its getting too much air, so it changes its air to fuel ratio too much and the car is running too rich. so it f*cks up your spark plugs and there is a chance of your new cat f*cking up too.. and then it begins: your car is now a smoke blowing, thrashed up, p-plater run around.

exhaust and air intake performance upgrades were orginally designed to support your upgraded cams/engine and a lot of performance work shops will sell them as they are "alone" for money, which is fine but throw the car on the dyno and you're lucky to get a 10hp difference and its mainly because your car is adding more fuel. over $2000 for 10hp??

as for cams.. i know you have to get more things done than just cams but at least you're getting everything to flow better/properly and you get a massive power increase, plus you can get the exhaust and air intake to match, later on if your wish etc etc. this will save you money from buying a second time.

either way a waste of money, but i think the point im trying to make is that you probably have to do some proper performance mods done or nothing at all.. its just going to be a waste i think, working with performance cars myself i see alot of teens/p-platers waste a lot of money doing something and having to get it changed later on.

getting cams are the best way to let the engine breathe.

You obviously don't know much about the LS series engines then right? They are quite detuned in Holden form.

My VX Calais was 220hp atw stock, for under $2k i've got 300hp at the wheels. Hardly a 10hp increase ;)

All i have is an OTR, cat back and a mail order tune. Still waiting to put my 4-1's and high flow cats on and get the tune tidied up to suit. Oh and a 4000rpm stally for sh!ts and giggles should have the barge knocking on the door of some 11's

I agree! As i think i said... my mates LS1 was only modded as far as exhaust, custom OTR intake and custom tune = 250RWKW. Big difference. Granted he had a Di Filippo exhaust which was expensive, but the performance and the sound that came with it was worth it :D

was that dyno'd?? you must have the print out then? post up some pics. what workshop to you take it too?? are those stats straight out of the factory?

stall converter wont do much without cams..

but yeah i got no need to argue mate, its your car mate, good luck with it

nah no dyno print out here mate just took it down my mates shop to test her out. The LS1's are revvy engines so the stall will get it snapping off the line with the slicks at the track.
Im not arguing mate just letting you know the LS engines respond very well to minor intake/exhaust mods better with a tune of course but a basic mail order tune only cost me $350 (Chrissy special a couple of years ago).

I'd like to cam mine in the future too as there's anoth 40+hp to be had with a mountain of torque with only a small cam but i'll see how it goes, im pretty happy with it for now hence still not having the 4-1's on it after a year haha

Nice pics Steve, looks very nice mate.
If you ever upgrade the wheels lmk what you want for the ones on your ute, been wanting to slap a set of those on the old VX :D

Agree with what has been said above but not gonna get into the whole debate  Sounds like you are more than happy with it Steve and it looks sick:thumbsup:
Just take the resonators off so at least you can hear that its a V8 the VEs are too quiet IMO (unless under full throttle)... And nick I have heard the cops are real harsh about VE wheels on earlier model cars in Melb and are catching up in Syd because they have to be illegally machined to fit and a lot of shops are shying away from doing this work themselves because of all the legal bs, was looking into a set for my VX, but have thought twice, even insurance companies have apparently voided claims on that basis...

Sorry but  remind me to never go where you work.... LS series engines are so detuned from factory and are so easy to get power out of that cams dont need to come into play until your talking 285-300rwkw plus action..... Espicaly the L98's... the LS1's will take more, espically the first gen ones in the VT's with their restrictive intakes and all! Ive ssen many, many a VX - VZ pulling 215-240rwkw on Mainline Dynos (230-250 rwkw on Dynamic Dyno's) and the L98's (6ltrs in the SS and SSV Ve's) constantly pull 255-265rwkw (on mainline dyno's) with ONLY exhaust OTR and dyno tune!!! hardly "minor" gains from a factory 270kw flywheel (Approx 220ish rwkw) vehicle. When Im finaly over my money hurdles I'll be getting mine Tuned and a decent OTR and will be expecting around the 260rwkw mark out of my VE ss sportswagon.... Have seen multiple VE series SS's pull these numbers on dynos with just the exhaust, OTR and a good tune. Check all the forums, LS1.com, Streetcommodores.com and so on for further proof... It;s a widely known fact they are easy to get great performance out of without stupid amounts of cash or crcking the engine. Going the cam route first would be a lot more costly then the bolt on mods

Love the pictures Steve! The only reason I didnt go red with my wagon when I ordered it was the fact its a flat colour not metallic so have heard through family members high up in Holdens they need to really be looked after on the outside to keep the paint from fading or oxidising (s?) badly! Really wish I had gone the SSv or at least optioned out with Leather and a couple of other things but just thought my young tribe would destroy the leather inno time at all!! Gotta love how the 6 peggers just keep pulling thorugh the gears!!!

Sorry guys I couldnt help but get involved.... Its just known fact they are easy to play with!

Just wanted to comment quickly on the wheels. If they are done by a machine shop then they are very easily engineered, infact if thy are done in an engineering style shop then they will meet al engineering requirements.

Cops at state laws are just going to far with their BS and over driven revenue raising schemes!! I manage a Bob Jane and work with wheels and tyres day in and day out, if they are done properly, with the right tooling machinery then they are as good as they were out of the factory. They only remove approx 5mm and doing it in the right way doesn't alter the roundnes as such of the center bore at all!! Governments and police trying all this crap on instead of looking for and dealing with real criminals really pisses me off!!!

Amen to that! And agree with every thing you wrote above, am an avid read of streetcommodores and why break it open when you can bolt so much power on! If you aren't going for a race engine then bolt ons are definitely the first port of call, plus any power figures you read from companies about gains from cams etc, are always calculated with the assumption that the exhaust, CAI and tune has already been done... Thanks for the info on the wheels too mate

Im not going to comment on what gives or doesn't give performance upgrades as i have no idea.lololol
With all the damn speed cameras over here its really not worth the $$$ as you risk ya licence at those speeds.
Just giving here a little more sound is what im after...without it waking up the dead if you get my point.
Wouldnt hold ya breath nick on the rims....love the wide spoke rims !! sorry mate !
Thanks ian...im with you on the colour...i new when i got it that i was going to spend half my life polishing it.

would have been better if it was a ford :P always gotta go the second best option mate...jordan and holden :p

btw i love the red dash....looks sick...bit bright tho inside is it?

LOLOL...0 out of 2 isnt bad for your last comment..
The dash is a little bright...its one of those things that youll either love or hate.
Most seem to have the plain old boring black interior...yawn

Good to see another couple of Streetcommodore and LS1.com boys on here

Whats your usernames on there? Mines BLN215 (My old VS GTS)

Sorry to hyjack your thread again Steveo haha I don't blame you for not wanting to sell the rims they are a classy looking rim

and this is why four bangers do better at the creek  ..but hey like i said your car is your car, if you think im wrong then im wrong.

good luck to all

Fmly_Wgn on both of them Nick... I think! I hardly post on either site but do read them a fair bit!

Ive never been a fan of caryard salesmen...and im proven right again
When i checked the vehicle over prior to purchace i found a list of things that need to be rectified.
It was written into the contract and i would pick it up when ready.
An hour after i get home i got a ph call saying the dent in the rear tailgate and paint protection would have to wait a week due to the backlog.
I wasnt happy but said im off for a week can i drop in in when i get back...no probs they said just ring first.
When i returned on thursday and phoned them they said yey bring it in.
Upon arriving they have now told me i need to wait another 2 weeks !!!!GRRRRRRRRRR

i made my point that when i rang on thursday and they said ye bring it in my car should be there priority over hail damaged cars that havnt been sold yet.
They claimed its not always possible...ye right

I made a point that prior to the purchace you said this would be done before i picked it up....whos to say in 2 weeks you wont do it again.
I left the car with them to fix the smaller things today but another trip in 2 weeks..pray they dont fob me off again !!
Its pretty obvious that customers are there no1 concern only untill they have parted with there cash.

Granted these arent big things but damn frustrating when they say 1 thing and then fail to do it.

Mate I am with you there!

I had a few things like that with my car (Had a large scratch that wasn't there when I agreed to buy it) and I ended up just telling them to send me a cheque to get it fixed rather than wait for them to do a dodgy job!

Once they have your money they are NEVER quite as nice........Hope it all gets sorted for you ASAP!

Just to update ....if anyone here in perth please dont buy a car from a specific holden dealer on Scarborough bch road.
Its been a bloody nightmare...7 weeks later im still waiting for repairs.
I wont go full on into it as its a long story with nothing but excuses and very bad service.
The nice new ss floormats (in pic) are covered in dirty prints from there workshop.
Stone chips not done.
no keys to lock rear hardcover
No spare key programmed
stereo screen still not working

Almost nothing has gone right...even there finance dept stuffed up the paperwork !!

Thats no good at all mate! I hate car yards! I wont even get y beast, which I bought Brand New from the dealership here, serviced by them cos they are blatant ripoffs and dont give a damn! I get the local Ultra Tune who has a big account with my work and has good mechanics from his apprentices to his 2ic to do it and cos they are registered mechanics it dosnt affect my warranty!
