Here it is folks. The entire set in its glory!
I remember the first card I picked up was the Kobe Bryant. I bought it via this forum from Rhys, simply because I wanted to add a Kobe autoograph to my collection. Little did I know that it would be the start of something bigger.
After seeing the Kobe in hand, I was instantly attracted to the design. It was classic, classy and combined both of the elements that I collect: a jersey and an autograph. Another thing this set had going for it was the names within. Legends like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler - as well as modern day stars like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Tony Parker, Carmelo Anthony and more.
Furthermore, with 75 cards printed per player, it was limited enough to be relatively exclusive, but not too impossible to find with a bit of time and persistance. In short, it was a set that ticked all of the boxes.
There were a few times when I thought it wouldn't be completed, but cards would pop up here and there when I least expected it. I never EVER saw the Raymond Felton, so was relieved when Upper Deck altered their checklist to reflect the fact it was never made.
For the final few cards, I made bids in the final seconds, but always ridiculously higher than the value of the card. For instance, I won the Jarrett Jack for about $17, but had my max bid set at $120 because I'd only seen it pop up once in over a year. So if the seller is reading this, sorry mate, you could have screwed me for a lot more, haha! Once I had about half of the series, I really just had to snap up anything and everything I found.
Does anyone here know of a collector anywhere in the world that has this entire set? I know of a couple chasing it, but nothing complete as yet. I dare say this might be the only complete one, or one of very few at the most. Would love to know...
They are all stored away in an album at the moment, but I will eventually have them framed up. Thankfully because there are 55 cards in the set, they will arrange nicely in a 5 x 11 array or vice versa. Does anyone want to hazard a guess at what this is worth? Not that I will consider selling, but it would be nice to know.
Finally, I would like an extend a thank you to the members of this forum. Not only have you taken an interest in this chase, but I have obtained many of these cards from people here, in addition to some very friendly alerts to pending auctions in the closing stages of the set. Thanks guys - it really is a great community.
Anyway, without further ado, here is the complete set. Hope your scrolling finger is working!
