Well sort of even if it is 2 years late !!

Much to my delight the old 98 vt commodore finally gave up the ghost and it was car hunting time.
Its been a long hard slog hunting with so many cars and like most a limited budget.
Needless to say im happy with what i ended up with..
2008 holden ve ss-v special edition ute
Looks stunning in red (not my first choice)...but finding a well looked after/good price in a 6 speed manual in a ute is tough so was happy to take the red.
The 6 litre 270 kw together with a 6 speed gearbox should give me more than enough grunt and its sounds sweet.
Had the rear lockable hard cover with dual humps...looks great even if it does make reversing a little hard.
Its already been lowered slightly.
Original owner pumped in over 6 grand in options !!

Would have loved a new 1 but not a fan of the new shape..yet !!

but its not a HSV

Very very nice indeed mate!! You wont be disappointed. Ive taken one of these for a spin. They purr... and as with most cats, you kick it in the nuts and she'll fly!! :D That was an impressive 'limited' budget  If you want to punch out a few more horse, something as simple as a good dyno tune will do it. Or add with that a good air intake and exhaust and that will tickle your fancy!! ;) My mate had a 5.7 and with a tune, exhaust and air intake was punching out 250RWKW. The 6l should make nice numbers

Congrats mate - will be a sweet ride!!! Gotta make sure you get a good exhaust on it and let that 6ltr be heard.

Got any plans for it like rims or something??

Awesome pick up mate  If you aren't planning on modifying it too much, at least take the resonators off and let the chev breathe and be heard:D Please please dont replace the aussie holden badges with yank chev ones though... I am looking at the SS sportswagons at the moment, need a new family car ;)
and maybe you could change your username to "SSV08"

Thanks all...much appreciated...true its not a hsv as such but im more than happy with the ss beastie.(love the new user name recommendation !!!)
As for mods.....at the tender age of 47 its probably got more power than i already need but a change to the exhaust to give it just a little more tone would be nice.
As i drive cars for a living i really cant risk driving it like i stole it ...lolololo
Im lovin the overall appearance as it is actually....maybe the black and red dash is a little over the top but alls good.
Cant beleive they wouldnt part with a set of floor mats ($90) when i signed up...there were none in it.
However...after mentioned that even cheap kias come with floor mats...he caved in.

Ill give it a month or so of driving before i can truly say what (if any) mods i may be keen on for sure.

 and waste money on a cam without an exhaust!?! haha! :P

Nice pickup Steve... But mate, if it's a VE it is the current shape!!!! (Capped so can't check the link!!)

yeah.. why not? you can run cam work without a performance exhaust system lol, better then just sticking an exhaust on for sound

Sexy piece of machinery there Steve!
A set of nice 4-1's, 3inch cats and a twin 3 inch exhaust with a tune and a set of 3.9 gears really get them moving :D
It would be an injustice to the world if you were to leave it un modded

With the LS series engines an exhaust and tune is a very cheap and effective mod the cam would be nice but with a stocker exhaust system it'd be wasting potential power ;)

Exactly! Exhaust and air intake no# 1 priority if modding!! Gotta let her breathe properly!! Sound is a secondary benefit of the exhaust.

exhaust and air-intake will get you very minor power.. VERY minor. waste of money i think. how much is a decent/good exhaust system with high flow cat and header/extractors. around 2g? how much is a proper cold air intake and piping.. 800 - 1g? and then later on finding out that the computer automatically changed the fuel ratio of the car because its getting too much air, so it changes its air to fuel ratio too much and the car is running too rich. so it f*cks up your spark plugs and there is a chance of your new cat f*cking up too.. and then it begins: your car is now a smoke blowing, thrashed up, p-plater run around.

exhaust and air intake performance upgrades were orginally designed to support your upgraded cams/engine and a lot of performance work shops will sell them as they are "alone" for money, which is fine but throw the car on the dyno and you're lucky to get a 10hp difference and its mainly because your car is adding more fuel. over $2000 for 10hp??

as for cams.. i know you have to get more things done than just cams but at least you're getting everything to flow better/properly and you get a massive power increase, plus you can get the exhaust and air intake to match, later on if your wish etc etc. this will save you money from buying a second time.

either way a waste of money, but i think the point im trying to make is that you probably have to do some proper performance mods done or nothing at all.. its just going to be a waste i think, working with performance cars myself i see alot of teens/p-platers waste a lot of money doing something and having to get it changed later on.

getting cams are the best way to let the engine breathe.

Thanks for all the tips on mods guys.....to be honest its already got more power than i had hoped..
More than enough to loose my licence and job...
Its heading back in to the workshop when i get back from holidays for good going over and paint protection added.
Then its tinted windows and a decent mat for the rear.
Ive spent near 2 days on it already detailing....and loving it !!
