Know anything about metal detectors !!

Well its definatly a gone deal...the planning starts shortly with what we will need.
Currently definatly need a luggage rack/tray to sit on the roof racks of our all wheel drive.
If anyone has one we can borrow or possibly buy here in perth lmk.

Will normal mobile phones work in the kalgoolrie area with optus/telstra ??

Time for an update...
Our 2 metal detectors showed up today...
bounty hunter tracker iv

hell keen to see what they can do we assembled them both..(dead easy)
And grabbing different metal objects inc a very small gold nugget..
The brother in law placed them out in the back yard on top of soil and as expected...picked them all.
Then proceeded to bury them and depths to see how far down we could go.
Was surprised to see the smallest item (gold nuggett) was still picked up at over 1ft down.
Different soil condtions will affect this naturally but at this stage pretty happy.

Thats Good news steve.Let us know how you go.
I went on another hunting trip for the shiny stuff on saturday and we found heaps of nuggets and tiny specks.
It was one of my best hunts for this year.
The total for the long days work was 23 grams so a very good day but i was expecting a little more for the amount of work i put in that day:mad:

I Prospect on the shoalhaven river and i use a custom made highbanker sluice that is roughly 90% recovery rate unlike some models on the market that are about 60% recovery.
I dont like metal detectors because there isnt alot of places that i could go but i would love to prospect in W.A and the golden triangle because some of the biggest nuggets in the world have been found there and are still being dug up.

And this is a pic of the river i was working.

looks like a nice settup...ill stick to detectors for now..
No rivers worth my time close to me.:(

Been getting a few people saying that there are really only a few detectors that will find gold up north due to the soil conditions...and they are $$$$$$

We will just have to prey there wrong....whatever happens ittll be a lot of fun.
These trips will only be once or maybe twice a year max anyway.

You WA are so lucky, ur whole state is just loaded, I want to gold prospecting too, Best of luck Steve, if u find any Gold or Iron Ore PM me :woot:

Wow that's awesome! I just red this thread and it's so interesting and looks fun!
Mark755 I was wondering since you only do it in the river, do you ever pick up good sized nuggets or just the flecky stuff..either way it looks like a nice haul for a days work :)
Love to give it a crack 1 day in NZ we have arrowtown down south it's our gold miners 1st stop..

The biggest nugget i ever found was 20.5 grams and it was sold on ebay to a french guy for $840au around 2 years ago above market value but i found it with a gravity dredge.
The shoalhaven river does contain alot of fine gold and tiny specks all over the place and you can find decent size nuggets up to 1 gram in size IF you work hard enough all day and moving those extra large boulders to clean under and around.
The nuggets in my picture are 0.1 gram and under but gold does add up when you prospect every week and i was very lucky to meet Martin marks a 3 time australian gold panning champion at the shoalhaven river and we are still good mates today and he is over 70years old but can still find $600+ a day in gold fines and tiny nuggets.
Before i met martin i was making around $100-$200 for 1 days work gold prospecting but after meeting martin i'm making $800-$1000 almost 1 ounce a day for 1 days work but you need to know where to look and gold prospecting is very hard if your just getting started.

The biggest nugget found in the last 5 years in the shoalhaven was a 50 ounce nugget, over $60,000 and that was in 2005 and people are still digging them up but they are Not talking about it.
