Know anything about metal detectors !!

And the next day your in bed with back problems:mad: Try moving huge boulders and stones all day for 7 days.

:lol::lol:..if i was pulling $800 a day + ide live with the pain..:thumbsup:

But all jokes aside its the thrill of the chase and unlike other hobbies we both know off...once you purchaced the detector and a few tools the cash layout is basically fuel only:thumbsup:

Fuel and not being able to roll out of bed to go on another hunt:lol:.
I think i have a permanent back injury:cry:Thats why i can only go 1 time a week or when i fill i can take on the days work.

I havnt tried metal detecting so i dont know if you will have the same problems.

This is an AWESOME thread.........it makes me want to go and visit all my relatives in Kalgoorlie (lol).

Mark755 - Love your contributions here, keep them coming.

Steveo - Good luck mate, it should be fun

Hoping to get some info as im possibly going up north with a mate to do some gold prospecting.
Metal detectors seem to sell for as little as $129 or thousands.
Any help would be much appreciated

HEY...IF ANYONE HERE IN PERTH IS KEEN TO JOIN US...LMK
Naturally you will need your own gear...caravan etc

there is a shop in Midland if you haven't seen that:thumbsup:

Cheers evil....ive just purchaced a second and much better machine for gold prospecting.
As i said before we may have trouble up north on our standard detectors with all the other metals in the soil...
Werent 100% sure so this new model will definatly have the ability to discriminate these out and rais our chances of finding the good stuff !!:D

What did you do with the first one you bough Steve?

Nothing bro....i now have 2.
The second 1 is higher end and more suited to highly mineralised soil.

First one ive already used and works a treat

hey steve, i have just got into gold dectecting with my brother in law, he has been doing it for about 25 years and has found some awesome peices, about 8 years ago he found a piece the size of your fist, sold it for handsome amount too! he is up around kalgoorlie at the moment but not finding a lot, back where we live we do ok, we are in the golden triangle and have found some good spots up the side of a mountain near vaughan springs (50kms from bendigo) he has the latest goldseekers model (6500 think) and i use his older 4000, great detectors, especially for depth and overall useability, once you get an "ear" for it, you can find deep and smaller pieces, the best peice for me so far into my early start is a 17gm peice, beautiful and clean too, looks sweet! have other piece around 5-12gms and even littlies around .3-.7 of a gram, my bro in law in this spot last year found a piece that looks like your finger but flat, weighed 5oz, pretty sweet and pissed off i missed it..lol, anything you want to know ill ask for you and get you some info...

Thanks aram.... some pretty impressive finds there....ill settle for just 1 small nugget this time round.
As we dont live in a gold bearing region down here in perth its really a waste at this stage going for 1 of the $4-5k detectors....if however it turns into a full fledged obsession it may be an option later down the track.

This trip will be a learning curve thats for sure...regardless we wil have a ball =D>

Why have two average ones?
Why not put the money together and get a better one?

I suppose it's too late now

spending 4-5 grand gets you the top the range detector for penetrating soils with many other metals present
Spending that much when your not going to be in that type of soil much is pretty much a waste
ps. The 2 I have still came to less than half that ammount

But why have two average ones? Is one better in soil and the other better in rocky conditions or something?

I have seen this thread but never taken the time to read it... Glad i did Mark very interesting what you know and do. I have been doing alot of traveling recently out west in Qld this is a great country id love to go to a goldfield one day. If i found anything id be so excited i dont think i could give it up. Good luck with the hunting Steve interested to keep an eye on this thread.
The only time i have ever used a metal detector is in my grandmothers back yard and all we found was scrap metal and bottle lids :(

Thanks mate its another hobby.

Hey steve i found this youtube vid about a guy who found 20 ounces on a small patch in kalgoolie and if you check 4:48 he walks over an area that looks like a dried ancient river bed.
The whole vid is him walking over the patch he found.
Guaranteed he just walked over another gold mine and i would dig that area up and bring as much of the black sand material back home to work further;).
