The Official BOSTON CELTICS thread

I never realised how solid a back up Daniels was. He's been playing great the past few games

Yeah his pretty underrated i reckon, not many people give Dallas much respect really and thats where he started and then he moved to Indiana and they get no media attention at all (well no good attention, brawl, fights in clubs, fire arms etc.) and now i get to see some games with him again finally, its been a long 3 years.

marquis is a real solid vet... im a hornets fan but i was wrapped when i heard the celts were gonna get him

Yeah i follow Dallas but when i heard that he wanted to sign with the celtics and pass up a lot more money from other teams i was pretty happy. I'd love him to win a ring there and shows that his not after a bunch of cash like a lot of NBA players these days. It's funny i used to hate boston before he moved there but now they are almost my favourite team

Rondo double figure assists again today, playing great.
Pierce great, 27 points
I liked also that KG only played 26 mins, good to get rest when the lead is secure.

Well Rondo finally signed!

Can't say I'm happy with the way he and he agent have handled talks but this wont happen now for 5 years. 55M over 5 years is a large chunk of coin and the Celts offer of 50M and Rondo's demand of 60M was met half way. Now time for him to back up his cringe worthy statements about his play and deliver a title.

The risk of a max offer at seasons end or even worse losing him for nothing at the end of the next as he chased the cash with possibly two or more rings on the table was too much to risk. We took the punt and handed over the team to a near rookie and losing the work and trust put into him would of been too much for many of us fans to bare.

His TO-assist ratio this year is obscene despite yesterdays slightly sloppy play. And as Perk mentioned Rondo is a handle the ball PG like Kidd and Nash who rack up big assist numbers. The ball travels thru many sets of hands in the Celts O system and its credit to him that his numbers are that good with that. Stats often don't tell the whole story and Rondo's assists and general play has even been above what the stat sheets reads this year.

4-0 and looking solid, now lets see how Rondo responds now he has the cash he wanted. I'm sure his standing in the rooms has lowered a bit though even in this modern NBA salary driven world.

That is some big cash! The way he has been playing though and his potential could make him worth it !. Good to lock up a guy like that, however much I hate seeing his TV interviews etc

I think he's worth that. Not as if KG can sniff about ever being underpaid!! All the team know how good he is and he's not gonna get worse in the next 5 years.
Kudos to the C's owners for putting the $$ on the table, with Perk's relative youth and the experience in the team they certainly won't fall off the face of the earth at the end of the season as some are expecting....

Rondo's definitely worth the coin, it'll be interesting to see how the team is panning out towards the end of that contract though, will the BIG 3 still be around?

How many years do you reckon they have left in them Chad..?

Ray probably actually has the most left in him than the other two. Spot up shooters especially ones that look after themselves like Ray does have a good life in the NBA.

Pierce and KG prob have another 3 years left in them depending on if they accept smaller roles as they get older or retire whist out on top. Its impossible for me to say as I can't speak for them or their families. Pierce already although the best of the three feels it by playoff time. After that Rondo will have this as HIS team for two years or more with or without them at least.

Pierce and Allen have the chance to rework their contracts soon for lesser money and retire Celtics for life. I'd expect Pierce to do so but Allen may go to another championship team as a vet on lesser money IF he chooses to uproot his kids from school once again.

This team is DEEEEEP!:D

The defence tonight in Philly has been stifling! =D>=D>=D>=D>=D>

Philly can't score, get into a rthym or stop any of the 10 scoring options we have

Tony Allen should have his bags well and truly packed, now that Daniels is here and Hudson comes on and drains shots and can handle the ball Allen is a goner :yellow:

Sheed was just in the zone tonight and is putting up big numbers as 6th man, Williams looks fantastic out there despite his 3Q brain fade......

Ray struggled but you didn't notice it, its pick your poison basketball. Play some form of D and then get exploited by our depth and versatility. Playing one option only gives Rondo the chance to find the right option for us.

30 plus pts! :woot:=D> And to the second best team in our division

SCAL FOR THREEEEEEE! Great to see Scal out there.

After possibly the worst opening Q I've seen in a long while this game was iced by Sheed and Pierce's unstopable 3rd Q.

Over a 100pts. opp 74pts.

Great transition game, pts off TO's, great pick and roll game, great isolations of mis matchs, Great awareness of the open man. All that offensive power is most impressive but.....

This is defense like the NBA has never seen it before! :worthy::worthy::worthy::worthy::worthy::worthy::worthy:

TO's are the only thing to ***** about today.

Oh and lets not forget that we still have Big Baby to come back, a player that would start for a great amount of teams in the league...

62 bench pts tonight!

Yeah the bench were massive and they had to be when Allen, KG & Perk only combined for 11 points! 62 is massive! You think Davis will come back in and soak up a lot of Williams minutes because his been around the 10 n 10 mark the last few games?

I'm not sure where Davis's minutes will come from with a bench prospective. Its a problem thats kinda nice to have unless you have a player that thinks he should be a starter and sulks if he doesn't get big minutes on the bench even...... Hence I think we could have problems down the road. What it DOES mean is we we have games where Williams or Davis get each others minutes and trade games of who gets what based on matchups and from a teams prospective thats perfect. But in a perfect world we don't have NBA players egos.

KG's and Pierce's minutes will a be a lot lower this year than last when Davis was in the rotation so his chunk of minutes will come from them if anywhere. Better to have them play 30 mins than 40 plus so thats an extra 10 mins there for Davis than he would of got last year pre KG and Powe going down.

Lets hope Doc has a plan to handle the minutes and manage the ego's while he is at it.

Perk played really well and was great on the boards and boxing out getting the transition game going, Ray just didn't make any plays for himself and didn't need to and KG seemed like he didn't care much tonight but basically it was a night off for them but they were on the floor mostly when the game blew open. The bench extended it as our bench outplayed theirs as it should and the sixers gave up.

Todays game is being built as a big game.....

If the real Celts turn up and not the ones that did the other day against the Wolves I see a win. Although I think the Suns +9.5 lines isn't that all bad.

Rondo usually owns Nash and last time dropped 32pts on him to go with 10 assists. They are one two in the league for assists this year but Nash gets it done as a more pure PG controlling the ball.

Keys to the game for us are..

NUMBER ONE! Limit TO's. The Suns run and get their fast break game going and pts off TO's could be cruicial for cheap pts.

Pierce on Hill. Pierce is lighter, faster, has his eye in from range and is his normal slinky self on the drive. Hill will need help and someone will have to leave their defender. Open KG, Ray, Perk anyone??

Tempo. Control it. Run when we wan to run and slow it down when they want to run.

Bench minutes. The second unit will have trouble with Amare if the Suns keep him out there. Doc's rotations and what starters he keeps out there will be a big factor. I still don't trust Doc to get it right.

Sheed hold back today and not get caught up with trying to match a three barage from the suns and Richardson.

This Suns team could pose problems but ONLY if we let them. We a chance today to show the league just how good our D is and hold the Suns to less than 100pts.

Looking forward to Rondo vs Nash and hopefully the right Rondo turns up.

I'm predicting a blowout today. I've followed the suns closely this year cos Amare and JRich are in my fantasy team, Amare's still finding his feet, despite 25-14 vs Orlando last game. Nash has been playing well and same with Hill but they still don't stop anyone and u know the C's will make some stops.
Rondo eats Nash alive and when he blows past him there are a myriad of options for him as Amare isn't really shot blocking much and they are waaay undersized at centre with Frye - can't see how the Suns will match up with Perk and KG down low at the same time. Both pass well and so I expect an offensive clinic.....

Rondo is also not turning the ball over so I don't expect TO's to get the Suns going. As long as the C's rebound they'll be fine....
