did anyone watch this skit last night where it was apparently a tribute to the jackson five? what do you think?

i didn't watch it but we are really scraping the bottom of the barrel when we have to use unfunny forms of comedy as entertainment. also on a related note, hey hey should be buried already. that show is way past it, just like allen iverson is now.

The trouble is, Red Faces was always about weird and just plain crap acts, with the occasional good act. That may have cut it 10 years ago, but if Hey Hey was to make a permanent return to TV, I think they would need to be more careful who they choose to be on Red Faces.

The Jackson 5 act was terrible, the woman singing was worse and the guy burping was just disgusting and unnecessary.

you guys need 2 have a shot or concrete. it may not have been funny, buti mean really? racist? taking the piss from the great mj? this is australia, where taking the piss is a common everyday thing. i think we r all being just a little precious here.

i wouldn't want to see someone doing the same for our aboriginal greats like michael long and yothu yindi...

if someone of colour did the same act and mocked caucasians it wouldn't be funny and equally as bad...

I think it was a tribute to the original one but not needed, didnt need a tribute cause the original wasnt funny anyway, I think times have changed, meh though really ! Go HC jr!

I didnt really think anything of it though. I dont really care now.

But red faces use to be good. Now its Lame. the guy burping was stupid.

And the guying juggling the sword and fire was good untill he fell off his bike.

Can someone explain to my why it (The skit) is considered racist?

It's ALL OVER the news saying it is racist......the main singer was an Indian and 4 of the other 5 are multicultral for gods sake so it was obviously not racist!

There was no putting down of any race just a take off of the jackson 5......yeah it was lame and old but this uproar is over the top IMHO.

The dictionary quotes this:
Racism - Hostile attitude or behaviour towards members of other races, based on belief in the innate superiority of ones own race.

I don't think that was happening there......comments?

the guys doing it werent white, they were fricken indian and one was lebonese, it wasnt racist, its how you take it, if you take it as racism then get the hell over it, theres worse instances of racism than that EVERY DAY, people only got the sh!ts cos he's dead...he's a hypocrit

I agree Richo...I think people forget the meaning of some words or that overtime the definitions get twisted. (Blame the media and the internet!!)

And let's just say that Harry Connick Jr (and I'm a fan of his) is apparently a bit of a hypocrite here - maybe it was more acceptable 12-13 years ago??

Agreed! Just because an act is taking the p*ss out of someone doesnt mean they are doing because of their skin colour......it would have been just as lame if it had been ABBA they were taking the p*ss out of but would everyone be calling it racist......I think not! There was no degradation of coloured people going on there (IMHO). If there was I'd be happy to have it (where) explained to me!

i dont see the hypocrisy in that vid, he didnt paint his skin, he was just imitating a preacher and taking the piss out of himself? i did skip through it though cause really cbf watching it all

painting your face black to mimic african americans was the racist part. i think if they didn't do the facepaint, it would have taken a bit longer for the crowd to get the jackson five parody and it wouldn't have caused any uproar. maybe something to think about for next time. in any case, i don't yearn for this show. we should really be innovative with tv, not go back to the stockpile for stuff that didn't work 10 years ago.

your spot on richo!
if they didnt paint there faces black then people wouldnt of really got it (that they were the jacksons)
i think people who think this is racist and are making a big deal of it need to get a life

So how does that fit into racism?
Are you telling me if for a fancy dress party I dress up as say Muhammad Ali and prance around saying I float like a butterfly and sting like a Bee that I am being racist? Come on dude, racisim is MUCH more than that! lets be real here, once again, the dictionary states:
Racism - Hostile attitude or behaviour towards members of other races, based on belief in the innate superiority of ones own race.
Painting ones face black to mimic the Jackson 5 doesn't fit into this!

Too many people think if we say or do anything funny to with colour it's racism......well that's a crock of sh*t if you ask me! Australians are brought up with the edgy humour of taking the p*ss out of people (Including ourselves), some of it may be close to crossing the line but most of it doesn't. Would we be screaming racism if the Indian's in the skit painted their faces white and took the P*ss out of Red Simonds old band the Sky Hooks....I doubt it! but it would be the same thing IMHO.
