Thought this would be a good way to get some discussion going on here. Feel free to start your own thread if you have an interesting background.

Ask me a question about being a teacher

Are u a primary or secondary teacher mate?

Would you have any tips for new teachers?

My girlfriend has almost finished her Uni course and will be getting into teaching next year hopefully, so some tips i could pass on could help.

Primary - Year 5/6 This year.

I think what you are seeing is maturity!!!

They shouldn't be any dumber than before if anything I think because of the amount of information they have available at their fingertips, their "stupid stuff" is becoming more adventurous and also more known via the web etc.

How many apples do you get a day? Could you open your own fruit stand with the amount?

No fruit stands this year. I've taught Preps and Ones for the last 6 years so the change to 5/6 has been pretty huge and that is one of the big differences - the younger kids think you are GOD!

Do get some great presents and thanks from the kids and their families though, it is what makes the job very rewarding.

PM me. What Uni is she at?

Do you teach sex ed??

When the Celts won the title how many kids missed school because their dads got too drunk to take them to school the next day??

Do you hate having 4 months of paid holidays each year? LOL

When on holidays do you hang out at the local shopping center?

Do you ever wish you taught high school instead?

Do you still like kids? LOL

Do you do classes dressed as a jewish singing cowboy?

Billy,

where do you teach? I am an assistant principal in Western Sydney (Mt Druitt)...and yes as my partner says why are you still collecting cards????

I tell her we all choose when to grow ups ome of us are just putting it off.....

Where do babies come from?

Seriously, my wife is a Uni trained preschool teacher and is about to make the jump to K-2 teaching. How much after hours work is required for say a year 1 teacher?

Cheers
Matt

does 1 + 1 really = window

do you laugh at anything the class clown does

Hell yes. As said below it takes some of us longer to grow up! Even fart jokes still bring a smile to the face. The move to the 5/6 has been good with regard to their sense of humour.

Sex Ed - No, have a "professional" teach it.

Holidays - it's tough :D

High School - NO way. We have a high school right next door to our Primary and every so often we go over there and it just reinforces it to me!

Yep still like kids and no singing cowboy here.

I'm in the SE Suburbs of Melbourne. Primary School of about 330 kids. I actually have the role of Leading Teacher - position below AP. I think it's slightly diff. to NSW a friend told me most schools have several AP's?

Babies come from the cabbage patch, come on Matt we all know that.

Workload - Really depends on the school and the teacher. I work way too much but I enjoy and want to succeed. The school I am at (1st year this year) has a much higher work ethic than my previous school. Previous school had a lot of staff close to retiring and not much work was done after hours. My new school it is nothing to still see cars in the car park t 6 o'clock.

Me personally I like to get to school early (no one to interrupt me!) around 7:30 and usually don't leave until after 5.

Shoot me a message when she goes back and i'll send you a pile of resources if she is interested

Toilet humour will get me everytime.

Same as you, sucker for a fart joke. or really bad tasteless jokes. (eg How do you know when vegetables are cooked.....the wheelchair float to the top)
