Moving along from Mikelee's ultimate thread....

With the release of Hoops Hot prospects, UD Black and the upcoming release of UD Chronology in August, I think Non - GU Auto Patch cards will become more common in the near future.

Sure GU Jersey/Patches cards are cool, but for the majority of collectors these days, they are a bit ho hum. The rarity is no longer there.

With Chronology coming out soon, each pack is stated to have a Non - GU signed Letterman per pack.

I reckon these will be a big hit. Much like the Non GU Lettermen/Numbers out of UD Black.

The fact that they are not game worn to me doesn't make a difference.

When you think about the underlying lack of credibility that many collectors have about the companies have when it comes to authenticating GU gear, it suprises me that some people dont like the fact that they arent game used.

Over the past few years, there have been many cards ruined by the companies putting the wrong pieces of patch into the wrong cards. On top of this the companies have wound back their authentication guarantee on the backs of these cards to vaguely certify their authenticity.

Adding to this, most of the rookie cards these days that feature jersey pieces on them are from the rookie photo shoots/draft day etc, and not game worn.

Sure there should still be some GU cards out there, but limit them. Make them 1:2500 packs......make them rare again.

Whats everyone elses thoughts on this?

Cheers
Matt

I think non-worn jerseys are a bit silly, especially when it's something as awesome and rare as letterman patches.

The good part of game-worn jerseys is that the thing in your hands has been worn and sweated in by an NBA player. That's both rad and genuinely a little creepy. It's not like the aesthetic of fabric on a card is so fantastic that the main awesome part - the 'closer to the game' aspect - should be bypassed.

yeah much like my ud black erving auto number patch in the sig /6 it's not game worn from what I can tell, disappointing!

Prob- be something like these, not game worn and about 600 of each player!

As you know, it's game worn or event worn for me.

I'm collecting the player. Not something made in some factory with no relation to the player.

I mean, I want as much of the "player" as I can get in a card purchase, which is why I love auto'ed game used cards so much. As it contains the biggest bang of the player I can get.

As mentioned above, if it's auto'ed on fabric, the auto doesn't look as sweet. And if it came down to the 2 choice, i would always go auto on a flat surface than the fabric. UNLESS!!! The fabric was game used.

Considering the level of "Authenticity" that UD give out these days, with patches for wrong players, etc, I'm not actually disappointed about moving towards non-worn stuff.

I mean does anyone believe that these cards are actually:
1, real Jersey's,
2, Game/Event worn,
3, THAT player's actual jersey, and not a team mates??

I see it as a novelty, something cool, and another card to add to a collection.

Instead of giving up on authenticity, collectors should be demanding more. The companies appear to be listening in regards to on-card autos....maybe they will about GU fabric authenticity if everyone pushes in the same direction..:D

i want to see bigger swatches and make em a LOT rarer. the first UD Game Jerseys were perfect: big swatches and rare as hell. some newer GU cards like the trilogy swatches of stardom and the extra exquisite GU are cool.

See to me this is just a joke and its card companys being greedy and flooding the market with crap just to make an extra buck because they now people will buy these "high end" products i can see in ten years time all the cards of this era are going to be worth 1/10th of their value except for a select few. It reminds me of what happen in the 90's when they flooeded the market with inserts etc we all know what happen there lol. Its greedy card companys that have made me loose a bit of intrest in the hobby with their blatent lies (06-07 Fleer is one for example) and over flooding the market with things like non gameused lettermen, these things are ment to be rare and hard to obtain not a dime a dozen anyways ill end my rant there about why card companys piss me off :P

This is out of control, the card companies wanted to do more than it should be.

it also hurts the previous game used, lettermen, in the name market... and what is the use if everyone has logoman in the collection with little or no efforts??

this is killing hobby..

Yep. Totally correct.

If they start doing mainstream non game used patches it will be an absolute joke! I'd like to say I won't buy them but I'll be angry about doing so, lol. Its going to kill all the cool patches and letters that have come out the last few years and are actually gaame worn.

I have to agree though I think they are stuffing up ALOT more these days when it omes to correct pieces for certain players!

Something that I don't think has cropped up -

I personally think the autos on the hot prospects and upper deck black patches.

LOOK LIKE SHIT

and I would much prefer a normal on card auto

I agree, not a fan of them at all, the fact they aren't even game worn is just stupid in my opinion. Plus when they are trying to sign as quickly as possible fabric isn't the smoothest to right on so the sigs look like crap.
