Yeah I had one come in the same time frame as that from Japan. Pretty good.
Slowest one I've had come in the last few years was from Germany. Was a big card too, biting my nails waiting for that one
I'm against the death sentence for all but those whose guilt can not be questioned. However, I'm for physically castrating pedophiles. Not medication. That seems like a logical thing to do in order to protect kids.
I have a story from the 1980's. I feel it got swept under the carpet by the media and not many people other than his victims and families know about it.
It involves someone who was dubbed Victoria's worst ever pedophile when he was convicted in 1990 and sentenced to 11 1/2 years with a 7 year minimum. It did headline the news but quickly faded.
The sentence was a joke given there were 200+ victims over 10 years. At the time of his arrest he was living in South Australia and was a foster parent abusing those under his care. I have it on good authority that his life was made an absolute misery in Pentridge. That bit I don't actually care about. It would have been better for everyone if he'd just been killed.
The kicker in all this is that after he was released - and I have no idea how long he served but presumably he was out before he'd even served 7 years - he was again able to become a foster parent as the authorities made a clerical error.
You won't find his trial on any data base not even under the acronyms they usually use for these types of cases R V ABC. It's not there. I assume it's because there were so many victims they would run out of acronyms. Or simply because the case involved so many victims. And those were just the ones who testified.
The public have a right to know where these people live. My theory is that there are a lot of pedophiles in the judiciary and welfare services. How else can you explain the lenient sentences and the protection they are afforded once they are released?
His name is/was Marcus Delacy and he destroyed many, many lives. If he's alive he'd be 61 years of age.

Bringing this topic back to cards... I used to collect UFC fighter Pat Barry. Transitioned from kickboxing, an undersized heavyweight with exciting fights, win or lose, and an entertaining character.
His girlfriend Rose Namajunas also became an notable MMA fighter, first through Invicta with her flying armbar win all the way to a UFC champion.
An MMA power couple if there ever was one.
Then I read the story of how they met. Rose had a rough upbringing, a child of Lithuanian refugees, a father with schizophrenia that died while she was still young, separated from her family and the victim sexual abuse.
Pat met Rose at Duke Roufus' gym, where she started training after high school. Pat was 27, Rose was 14. He called it love at first sight.
This account was part of an interview that Pat Barry has since disputed, "taken out of context", but not by much. In another interview, when Rose was 22, he claimed they'd been dating for 4 or 5 years, while she said it was only 2-3. Barry has since refused to answer any more questions on the topic.
So while they are still together today, the whole story was a red flag. An adult man had groomed a very vulnerable, traumatized teenager. She has never known any other relationship.
I stopped collecting Pat Barry cards after that. His career was pretty much over by that point though.

Most father's would flip if they knew a 17 year old kid was interested in their 14 year old daughter. However, a 27 year old would 99.9999% of the time get badly beaten up - and rightly so.
P.S. When I heard the Wander Franco business I took down all my listings of him. None of the cards had more than $5-$10 in value but their true value was now zero imo.

I probably should get some glasses. I just noticed that when I click on my item for grading it says 12 week turnaround. Pretty sure that wasn't there to start with but may have been there last time I looked. Saves me looking for a few weeks.
Although they should not still be calling it a 45 day turnaround service when the time is currently double that. Bit naughty I reckon.
Insert sets of 10 also annoying.Probably been said numerous times but it bears repeating.
Base sets that aren't divisible by 9.
That triggers the ocd. A 15 card subset is ok as it just leaves 3 pockets open on the second page but a 10 card one forces you to either have one pocket filled on sheet 2 sheet or put the next subset in pocket two. Or spot 4. No good choices.
PSA 45 day turnaround through COMC is now at 15 weeks.

Needless to say I do not recommend this 'service'.
On a brighter note I'm enjoying picking up Australian made cards from my childhood. Collect what you like. Never a truer statement.

I've got a new one. Got 4 lots of cards today from 4 different sellers. Not one top-loaded card.
One seller - didn't refund the double postage either - sent me two cards both of which I paid $15 a piece for minus a top-loader, ffs. $36 dollars spent and no top-loader.
The other seller sent me an $16 card also just in a penny sleeve.
I must be the stupidest. I top-load a $3 card and throw in an extra card(s) and get maybe 1 in 3 that leave feedback.

There is no way I would send a card in with a bottom left corner like that. $22USD flushed down the toilet. When you look at the raw version you can not adequately evaluate the card. It certainly doesn't look as obviously flawed as this card is.

I am seriously falling off collecting atm.
It's just not fun anymore. Can't afford to open, trying hard not to break anymore and just not interesting in buying singles.
I think i am going to try saving a bit of cash, try selling some of my junk and look to just buy some stuff I like next year.

I totally get you. I just finished paying off a $900 Afterpay debt all from buying wax on tick. And I got absolutely crapped on. I'm almost cured from wax opening. I never thought I'd be able to say that but there's a tipping point and I think I'm there. My last box opening was NRL Elite and I enjoyed it. Doesn't break the bank, has a higher floor than most American products and I love the sport. I haven't opened NBA/NFL since 2019 ( save for the odd blaster) and baseball is next.
Normally I would have bought a hobby box of 2024 Bowman by now but at $500 it's the easiest of passes. I don't see any wax at Cherry that is priced competitively. It's all overs. 2024 Bowman sells for less than $320 AUD in the US( Blow Out has it at $207 USD). But even that price does not entice me given how diluted the product now is. It's close to impossible to hit anything decent. And Bowman is better value than all the other baseball products.
Also most of the breaks I have watched in the last 6 months are just depressing because the value is so bad. And I watch mostly hockey which still has slightly better value than baseball and much better value than NFL and NBA.
I've been picking up some NRL stuff and also bits and pieces of VFL Scanlens sets that I collected as 11/12 year old. That's actually been fun. Collect what you like and invest/speculate in anything but sportscards. I'd much rather bet on horses and sports than open wax. I've wasted a lot of money on wax and breaks these last two years. I still have some spots in a few 23-24 SPA breaks but I bought those spots 5 months ago. Hopefully can go out with a bang because I'm not spending another cent on breaks.
I still have a case of 2021-22 S2 hockey and I've managed to keep it sealed for 18 months. Easy to do when it's worth less than what you paid for it, lol. I'll open it at some point - hopefully when Raymond and someone else really breakout. I used to be able to spot value in wax here and there but I don't see any value in NBA NFL NHL MLB and soccer products anymore.
