For those who have been on these here forums for a while will know that I have a gazillion set chases goign on which most of you wouldn't even know about...

This is one set chase which may be doomed to never being completed though, the 1996-1997 Topps Stadium Club Class Act Refractors.

For those who don;t knwo about the set it's a10 card set with the refractor versions having pack odds of 1 in 96, There were also atomic refractors with pack odds of 1 in 192.

The whole theme of the set is to pair two players from the same college on the one card. One player on the card front and the othe ron the crd back with both sides having the refractor finish. Tehse cards specifically were well known for their incredibly poor centering issues.

CA 1 - Michael Jordan / Jerry Stackhouse - North Carolina Tarheels sadly, this is probably why I'll never finish this set. Need some pretty deep pockets to grab this card...

CA 2 - Patrick Ewing / Alonzo Mourning - Georgetown Hoyas -
the classic pairing of the Hoya Destroyers. Card is with me, somewhere, will update when in hand!

CA 3 - Brent Barry / Gary Payton - Oregon State Beavers - the dunker and the defender, one flew like Mike and the other talked like Mike... Barry on the front fresh off his slam dunk title!

CA 4 - Chris Webber and Juwan Howard - Michigan Wolverines - those old enough to remember the buzz around the Michigan 'Fab Five' - two of which were reunited in Washington as depicted on this card! Should have tried to keep those two together for a while, but Bullets gonna do what Bullets do - mess things up.

CA 5 Christian Laettner / Grant Hill - Duke Blue Devils - for some reason Grant Hill is on the reverse. Maybe it's some sort of Duke hierarchy, afterall Letttner hit 'THE SHOT' which goes down in Dukie history.

CA 6 Jason Kidd / Sharef Abdur Rahim - California Golden Bears - just to flex but i laso have the atomic refractor of this too!

CA 7 Clyde Drexler / Hakeem Olajuwon - Houston Cougars - Ironic that these two Houston alumni reunited in Houston as rockets teammates to take the title. What a fitting and apt card.

CA 8 Kenny ANderson / Stephon Marbury - Georiga Tech Yellow Jackets - FOr a college program renowned for producing PGs it was good to see they fetured a couple of premier point men. Card is also with me - somewhere.....

CA 9 - Penny Hardaway / Lorenzen Wright - Memphis Tigers - this is probably the saddest card on the list, injuries took away the Penny we all wanted to see and as for Lorezen Wright the less said the better, that;s one hell of a way to go, RIP big fella.

CA 10 Allen Iverson / Dikembe Mutombo - Georgetown Hoyas - not sure why they went witha asecond Georgetown pairing, but definitely a couple of iconic names. Will snare this one soon and update thigns when I do!

So basically the set is 70% complete and I can probably get it to 90%, but just thought I'd share now to discipline myself to take photos and in the knowledge that we all might be waiting a while for that last card to show up!

Comments and likes always appreciated - will try to post another random set chase I have going on soon!

Great set - the border they picked for it alone is a reason it stands out.

Go for the Atomic Ref set I say! Light finish before your sight goes in older age!

The border makes it and breaks it - looks good when done right but when the centering is off, it's very hard to look past...

I might pick up the odd atomic refractor but darned if I'll go for that set chase, don;t have enough body parts to sell for the Jordan - lol As for the eyesight, it's failing me now!

Very cool set chase — I'm sure that Jordan will tempt you one day...
It's tempting me now! But at those prices so many other cards I'd rather have - set chasers can't compete with PCers, espeically for highly collected players like MJ.

I have found to avoid this issue I just collect '90s insert sets where I already have the Jordan!

For me tnat woudl be more of a case of basketball set chasing in his baseball years or post retirement - you might say my collection is 'Jordan-Lite'!
