NRL 2018 Elite Discussion Thread

Next thing theyll be buying up scanlens cards from the 80s, getting them signed, stickering them and passing them off as inserts.

If they do that I'll be tempted out of retirement! Autographed vintage buybacks across the years would have been amazing. The ship has sailed a bit though - that kind of release 10 years ago would have been epic.

Basically already done

Yeah. I know. I might as well IPS and start up my own company. Yesterday's Heroes?

At least those by Dan are created and signed and done well and with affection for the players and the era.

Getting old Scanlens cards, signing and stickering them is not kosher in my eyes.

PS didn't realise they were called Heroes of Yesterday either. Wasnt trying to take the p! $$
Why? Buybacks are awesome IMO

It is fascinating to see the divide here.

To me the Scanlens cards etc evoke all the memories of my youth, and are from a time when I loved collecting cards more than ever. Making them extra special with signatures from my childhood heroes, puts them way above any custom that anybody makes. It also goes back to a time when the commons were the special cards.

Out of interest, when did you (guys that wouldn't like buy backs) start collecting cards? Was it at a time when signatures were already part of sets?

1982.

A commons & bubblegum man through and through.

And they evoke all the memories of swaps and everyone getting a chance to complete a set. It's now turned in to cynical cash grabs, exclusivity and out of range of most kids and even adults. Like comic books , I'd say most collectors are older these days and becoming more niche each year.

Yeah I agree, and in large part that is why I don't collect anymore. It is also why a step back in time to the past is appealing to me.

If the Men of League did retro themed sets I reckon they'd make a killing. Throw in some signed ones too and they're on a winner. And money goes to MOL support.

Even re-releases completely badged as such would be great too. NRL FLASHBACKS?

Buying old cards and passing them off as new inserts is not on imho.

Agreed.

1. Catchy theme names such as the Magnificent 7 they did in 2016. Can you imagine a boxed set of 7 signed cards /50?

2. Great cause. Any league enthusiast, young or old would agree that helping those that have fallen on hard times is a good thing.

I can predict the 2019 Elite inserts easy.

- Ruby, Saphire, Emerald League Sensations & Young guns. What the hell... might as well show in a diamond version to boot.
- Gold Parallel (maybe silver as well) Master &Apprentice + Sharp Shooters,
- Parallel Golden ticket for 3, 4 & 5 of the Master set,
- Parallel 300 Club subset,
- Parallel Dally M set. Maybe Ruby parallel set to boot.

Dibs on copyright for all of the above!

Whilst i like the look of the cards of recent years, ESP for the FIRST time in my life have lost me as a collector of the Elite series this year. They have totally lost the plot with the overkill on the parallel versions of various subsets. They have de-valued the NRL card market as a result over the years. Select cards prior to ESP actually held their value in the market. Look and learn dipshits.

I love NRL card collecting, however i am very disappointed in the road they have taken with their insert subsets in recent times. I personally have tolerated but this year enough is enough for me personally.

Wake up to yourselves before you kill off this enjoyable hobby for so many people! Be original and stop the ever increasing parallel versions of effing EVERYTHING!!!!!!!
