The Australian cricket non-official thread!

Just in regards to selections, there are plenty of good cricketers out there who'd do a great job for Australia.

Those in the side, and those on the sideline.

I feel for blokes like Jackson Bird (fantastic patience bowled but doesn't bowl 500km/ph and selectors want 'pace'), NCN (always on the periphery), Ferguson (can't believe he got dropped for getting a run out but them's the breaks sadly), Maxwell (yeah, the Toyman has actually really matured and worked his game but is stuck with the "Big Show" tag now), Travis Head (don't get me started - a bloke who bats and can send down some handy overs - oh no, not him).

CA has lost focus. The compact Ashes series of 5 tests in 6 weeks and they wonder why Cummins, Starc and Haze look stiff and sore. The infinite wisdom of closing down SS for 2 months in the middle of summer.

And as much as I don't fancy Wade as a keeper, or his 'chirp', the way he was treated was deplorable. I mean I'm his harshest critic around here and to sideline and railroad him like they did and make him a figure of utter scorn in the lead up to the Ashes, and what they did to Nevil...the selectors and hierarchy need looking at.

Anyway...I'm whinging. I know.

They say never change a winning team. Methinks they have erred greatly getting in MM because I can't see him scoring more than 24 at 6.

Not wishing to jinx it but he's done well.

That said Roy and HG's opinion on the pitch this morning and Malan and Bairstow's tons put this hit in to perspective.

Still well batting.

I couldn’t disagree more. All 3 centuries were thoroughly well deserved. Great to see how much he enjoyed it too with his celebration. A huge release of an extreme amount of pressure. Well done Aussie selectors.

I can't find the words to describe how delighted I am for Mitchell Marsh - suffice to say that I shed a tear when his hundred was raised.

The modern sportsperson is subjected to a multitude of thoughtless, witless, craven "instant opinions", mostly via social media. It is why I try to be as balanced as possible on here. As for my most recent comments about Mitch: I struggled committing them to print, let I come across as yet another no-hoper gleefully sinking the boot in. Whatever Mitchell Marsh does or doesn't do from now on, no-one will take away his maiden Test match century.

The innings itself headlined a red-letter day for the home team - 1 for 346. If the Ashes aren't quite out of England's grasp yet, the Smith/Marsh stand has certainly helped to slowly loosen their grip.

Australia's final score of 9/662 represents their ninth highest team score in Test history, and their highest team score against England in Australia.

Incidentally, Australia's highest ever Test score is 6/729, made at Lord's in 1930. On that occasion Don Bradman scored 254 - which he would later describe as "technically the best innings of my life". Talking about this brings back memories (no @Keatoboy, not of watching his bloody innings live!! :-) ) of the cricket magazine "Inside Edge", which in 2004 actually ranked the Bradman innings as the greatest played by an Australian batsman.

Who said nostalgia ain't what it used to be? :-)

Hey hey hey! Now you’re just putting words in my mouth!!
