The Australian cricket non-official thread!

200 by the Thunder a WBBL record only lasted a few hours, 242 by the Sixers. Will be entertaining if the Stars get anywhere near it in the chase.
Fastest WBBL 50 and 100 for Gardner, 91 off 49 for Perry.

I'm reluctant to call this a forgotten classic :-)...but here's something that our younger members might not have seen before. If there's one thing England do better than Australia in sport, it's catchy, irreverant theme songs (C'mon Aussie, C'mon notwithstanding of course!!).

Tuffers has appeared on Triple M's commentary this season - he really is a lovable lunatic!!

Stars fell well short but Lezelle Lee equalled Ash Gardners fastest WBBL 50 in 22 balls.
Don't know if the Sixer 242 was more impressive than the Thunders 200 given the Thunder were 4/41 after 7 overs and 6/117 after 15.1. but should be a great game today between the 2 teams.

The hitting really seems to have stepped up in WBBL3, North Sydney oval is a small ground but Gardner found the grandstand roof a few times. Tracking was showing them as around 90m so right up there with the men.

I'm waiting for the first express bowler to be unearthed, cant see why there isn't a woman out there that can bowl 130kph consistently and give 140 a nudge. When found I think they will be the next superstar.

Mitch Marsh has to go down as one of the most thorougbly undeserved test selections ever.

Funny to think since Generation Next last summer Wade, Renshaw, Maddinson and Handscombe have all gone.

Fair enough. But I can't say MM did anything to justify his return.

Handscomb will find his way back in. I feel this is more a horse’s for courses choice. Having said that, a JLT One Day Cup ton under pressure and recent shield scores of 95 and 141 might have something to do with it.

I really feel sorry for young Mitchell Marsh. I love his passion, I love his work ethic. I admire the fact that he has taken on the added responsibility of becoming the captain of Western Australia. I love that success and failure MEANS something to him. I really like HIM as a person and cricketer.

However, the kid has been a lamb to the slaughter since his Test debut.

There are all manner of excuses as to why the young bloke hasn't yet blossomed as a Test all-rounder of high quality. Unfortunately there must surely come a time where the numbers must count for something. In my opinion, those numbers should have been taken into account before this Test match. Mitch has made only two half-centuries in thirty five innings, and averages 21.74 with the bat. With the ball, he has taken 29 wickets at cost of 37.48 per wicket.

I desperately want the man to succeed but I sadly can't see it. For that, the Australian selectors must take a large amount of blame. He has been repeatedly set up to fail. Mitchell Marsh has become an object of mockery. The poor bastard shouldn't be playing Test cricket until his batting is good enough to warrant consistent selection.

I hope he makes me look a fool when it's his turn to bat in this Test. Given the way England have started, runs from our No. 6 batsman will be needed.

Exactly this.

His numbers dont add up and he is copping it for his selection and (in)ability...all in the spotlight glare of the test arena. This is entirely the selectors fault.

They brought him back to lessen the load and toil on other bowlers and I think we can agree that didn't work. He bowled 2 overs all day until late when he got pasted off the few more he got given with the last of the old ball. He dropped a sitter...I mean who puts him in at 1st slip? The catching hands were e en picked up by my 8 year old who said he'd gone about it all wrong.

The lad has talent. But not enough IMHO from the armchair. Selectors trying to manufacture something that isn't there. And it's amazing how malleable shield numbers are wben the SS ain't half what it used to be.

Very similar to Henriques test stats the big difference being Henriques has only played 4 test and 3 of them were in India so arguably he has performed better when given the chance.
Neither have 1st class career stats that scream for them to play test cricket. Both average around 30 with the bat and ball so test figures for both probably reflect the increase in standard of test cricket. Not every player can step their game up at test level or even match their 1st class performances. I think MM has had more than enough chances to see if he can make it, Henriques Im still not sure. 2 50's from 8 innings so there may be a chance he could make runs consistently at test level but I don't think either will be more than part time bowlers.

I know it is a flat track but I am picking a batting all rounder at 6. Australian cricket have this affinity with all rounders and sometimes it just doesn't work. Maxwell should have been 6, his fielding is brilliant, worth 20 runs per innings and he is in good form. The overs that Marsh bowled could have been easily done but Maxwell with the same result.
