The Australian cricket non-official thread!

At the same time though, what was the point of our ODI series against Pakistan? Countries have their home seasons and bringing the bigger teams makes $$. Hence why we went to South Africa, and why we're in NZ now. Rivalries = $$

That's what an all rounder should bring to a side.

A few others need to have a look how Marcus went with bat and ball, not often a losing member of a side should get man of the match but am sure he would of today

Pity the top order didn't happen for us

An astounding performance by Marcus Stoinis - the first Australian to make a century and take three wickets in a One Day International.

During the latter stages of the BBL I half-jokingly said to myself "this bloke (Stoinis) should quit cricket and become a male model, he'd be better at that". Instead, he then plays one of the truly great innings by any ODI batsman. The Cricinfo headline summed it up beautifully: "Stoinis Stranded Short Of Incredible Heist".

The numbers alone - 146 not out, 117 deliveries, 9 x 4, 11 x 6 - don't to justice to his innings today, or the match situation in which he played it. He also now has the second-highest score by a No. 7 batsman in ODI cricket.

Added to an excellent bowling spell, the lad made quite the impression!! :-)

Yeah, he got out to a spinner in a single ODI in New Zealand, which means he's clearly going to consistently fail against spinners in a different format in a different country. Never mind that he's scored the most Test centuries in Asia out of the entire Test squad...

C'mon guys, Shaun Marsh has been one of our best batsmen in Tests on the subcontinent in recent years - it's an absolute no-brainer to take him to India. One ODI dismissal does absolutely nothing to change that.

Nothing like a bit of bias in players we like and don't like hey ;)

I'm sick of all the commentators banging on about how 'talented' the both marsh boys are and their records to be as poor as they are.

Yeah, maybe I am biased. But you cannot objectively say that Shaun Marsh has a poor record. Averages over 40 in Test cricket and 38 in ODIs. Averages 79 in Tests in Asia. Reading other forums prior to the squad selection there were plenty of people (non-Western Australians) who agreed that S Marsh should've been one of the first batsmen picked based on his subcontinental record.

Anyway, I just think the Marsh boys both get criticised too much due to perceived biases towards them based on their names. Someone needs to stand up for them! Carry on :)

It now says on the Cricket Australia website that Marcus Stoinis has been added to the squad.

IMHO probably the smartest pick of the summer behind Handscombe.

Seldom do I post anymore but often read, but when you see a class player, I am prepared to hang my hat out and lay it on the line for any good cricketing banter.

My darling wife called just now and said "Did you hear what Stoinis did ? I said yep, saw he got 3 for... She said well you will be very happy as he just smashed an amazing 140+*"... I went wow, I am going to investigate.. So the first place I go look is good old OCT and started the read of his knock..... WOW, can't wait to watch the highlights later tonight.

My comment above is based sheerly on what Stoinis has done over the last 18 months, not necessarily in the limelight like others. Go back, have a look at his 2016 IPL efforts and then see what he did with the Cricket Australia "A" side against SA "A" team. By no means were these "Steve Smith" like, but enough for a connoisseur of the game to go "mhmm, he is one to watch". Marcus first popped up on my radar in July 2015 when he was playing for the NPS team and he belted 36 off one over.. yep the elusive 6 x 6's ! These were hit on a smallish ground at AB field but none the less was amazing !

Whilst one innings doesn't make a man (even though CA selectors would argue otherwise over the summer), I am excited about the prospect of a batsman that can SWING the ball. Now, I don't know how he went today with the ball, but watching someone genuinely move the ball around is what that fourth seamer/all rounder has missed over the last few summers. Having someone who can do this, AND have some form in India must prick the ears of our selectors for an upcoming tour..... They have gone out on a huge limb this summer with blood that many of us wouldn't have looked twice at.... so give the kid a crack.. .even just take him on tour to bowl in the nets and hone more of his batting, but I believe he looks pretty good for the future of our game...

Throwing it out there.... great to see opportunities coming for those outside of the state with the "Coathanger"

Cheers Damian

P.s. no responsibility taken if I have put the mockers on you Marcus ! :red:

Shaun seems to score runs in dead rubber games or he scores nothing for about 4-5 innings and when his position is in jeopardy scores a century and all is forgiven and repeats this.

We can all go and look at Mitch's performance/stat lines for test cricket and see someone that the selectors persevered with for too long, 19 tests for an average of 23 with the bat and almost 40 with the ball isn't good enough for a number 6 in the long form.

Don't worry Scott, I want him to succeed as much as you do. I am quick to judge sometimes, look at what I said about Matt Renshaw being picked... And boy did he prove me wrong, now he's one of my favourites!! :)

Yes! What a win by WA, especially from where we were on the first day. We've got a good one in Simon Mackin - 23 wickets from his last two games and the first ever WA bowler to take 11 or more wickets in two consecutive games!

Is Chris Hartley the best domestic player of the modern era to have not played for Australia?
He has a remarkable record, that's for sure. Talk about Mr Dependable. For all the good Adam Gilchrist did for Australian cricket, his success created a millstone for every other Australian First Class wicketkeeper. It's the same as Shane Warne and his successors. Selectors need to look for "the next wicketkeeper" or "the next spinner", not "the next Gilchrist" or "the next Warne". The expectations placed on Brad Haddin/Peter Nevill/Matthew Wade have always been excessive in my opinion. The same goes for Nathan Lyon.
