So what is Thon Makers real age?

Hi All,

So I see Maker as an exciting player with great future potential and I was looking at picking up some of his Rookie cards.

However I'm abit put off about all the age rumours "especially around the draft" there seems to be proof of him graduating at a perth high school in 2010. Than he starts high school again in the usa making him currently 23-24 year old rather than 19.

Along with a reported dodgy Australian manager/scout these rumours seem quite serious and real.
I'm hoping it's all just rumours but it doesn't look good.

I can't find any articles finalising the matter so thought I'd ask here,
Does anyone have any more to add or actual facts to support or squash these rumours?

FWIW that "Graduating Class of 2010" looks like it has been added on after the fact. Doesn't look like ink to me.

Thanks.. I have been researching and seen most of the stuff on the net.. but no one has really said much about it since around draft time and there hasn't been any hard evidence in defence.
Is anybody going to follow up these allegations?
Seems quite serious if his age has been lied about.. I'm hoping it's all bs as he seems like a good kid.
 
I have previously worked with refugees from Africa, and some do not have specific birth details or official paperwork from when they were first born. So some have approximate ages, some have the year they were born in but no exact date. I knew one person who had one date on their birth certificate, but had a different actual date they celebrated their birthday on. And then there are some who need their ages estimated, using an x-ray to see their growth plates in their bones, to estimate what age they may be.

I really like this response Ersk. Although why all the fuss over his age, let's just congratulate Thon for being drafted into the best basketball league there is rather than asking pointless questions as to how old he is. Simple answer to that question is old enough to be earning a bloody good wage.

Nothing against Thon "I like him".

..and not a pointless question for me..! I'm just doing my research before investing.

I also liked Ersk post, gives you a real insight on how tough it must be for some refugees.. too not even know your real age.

My response was not an attack on you so sure as hell hope you didn't see it that way.

There has been posts on other forums asking the same question with all of the keyboard warrior experts giving there two cents worth and I just think the question is in my opinion a "silly" one.

Also if you are into cards as an investment then you are in for the wrong reason, sorry but this is a hobby!!

I've collected all types of cards, for all types of reasons for 30 years.

Some PC, some for album, and some for trade bait, some for the kids and some for investment hopes!!

There are no guide lines for someone to be in this hobby! You do what makes you happy right?!
 
Also if you call my question pointless.. well then of course I take that as negative towards me.. I had explained my reasons for the question?!

Even if I really like a guy.. and want to PC him. I'm not if there's a good chance his stuff will plummet and be worth nothing. ie.. I wouldn't want to invest "or spend if you like" my money on him.

I completely agree.

I've worked with these kids also and it's not uncommon for them all to be "born" on the 1st of January etc.

People are making a big fuss about his age, because if he's 23 it means he won't develop. Plus the evidence is really not there to prove he isn't a teenager.

I hope he can become a solid player in the League. Some were saying he should stay in College. So you're telling me you'd turn down guaranteed money in the hope in 3 years you COULD possibly make more?
