Handscomb should be Vic keeper too.
I was only thinking about that the other day mate - Chris Hartley has been desperately unlucky I think to have played during the Gilchrist/Haddin era. He's now played 127 First Class matches, averages just over 33 with the bat and has claimed 553 dismissals. That's a remarkable record. To top it off, he's filling in as captain in the current Shield match against South Australia!

Stoked that the goat got a few crucial wickets. Despite his underwhelming performances of I still feel he is a crucial part of the rebuilding phase we are about to undertake as he has a bit of the 'old school' mentality, ethos and winning culture!!
I am an unabashed Peter Nevill fan for a number of reasons, but mostly because he doesn't engage in the type of banal nonsense that Matthew Wade seems to wear with a badge of honour. There were a couple of comments last night that were picked up on the stump microphone and I thought "mate, your first priority is to catch the cricket ball".
It's funny how some people branded former Sri Lankan wicket keeper Romesh Kaluwitharana as excessively annoying yet enjoy Wade's "niggle" and "mongrel". There may well come a time during this Test - or in the ones that follow - where his keeping and batting really need to do the talking. It's one thing to "talk the talk......."

The Cricket Australia website has Nevill listed as the keeper on the "Final XI" in the match centre. Even without their Test players it's a pretty good NSW batting line-up: Hughes, Cowan, Patterson, Henriques, Nevill and Carters in the top six.
I reckon CA should be applauded for live streaming the Shield games each round - the SA vs WA nail biter at the Adelaide Oval last season was gripping viewing @Keatoboy
Well, a terrific win by the rejuvenated Australian team. South Africa seemed a little bit "off", like some of Mark Taylor's teams in dead rubber Test matches. I don't think they'll be a fondly-remembered visiting team following mint-gate and their ridiculous pre and post-penalty antics, which unfortunately will detract from a fine series victory.
Next up, the Australian ODI team is in action against the visiting New Zealanders in a three-game series. Game one is next Sunday. It is in this period where I hope that the Test players not selected in the ODI squad will play First Class or Grade cricket to keep themselves in "game mode". No doubt a boffin will decide that Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood need their bowling workload "managed", so we probably won't see much of them!!
I am delighted for young Matt Renshaw - an opener who sells his wicket dearly is an invaluable asset at the top of the order.

I was predicting us to get smashed, but we actually won!! Shows what I know haha Very impressed by Matt Renshaw in both innings. Played a very important role. Certainly a few things in his technique that could be fine tuned (he played and missed a hell of a lot) but nothing that makes him a bad batsman. Peter Handscomb stepped up to the plate as we all expected with a great 50 in the first innings. I don't think we'll be seeing much more of Nic Maddinson unless he can prove himself with a big score against SA in the day night shield round starting Monday week here in Adelaide. Matty Wade was decent behind the stumps. Did his job well and I loved his chirp trying to annoy the batsman. A useful tactic in my opinion. Unfortunately for him though I think his batting let him down and we'll be seeing 'Nifty Nevill' come back in for the Pakistan series if he maintains his current shield form, unless Wade matches it. Very very happy for the GOAT finally grabbing a few wickets. He bowled superbly on Saturday night and fully deserved his 3/48. At the end of the day though, it was all too late. If only we could have played like that from the start of the series!

I said it's been a while since we've seen an innings like the one Renshaw played yesterday. Well, the last time an Australian batsman scored 30+ runs at a strike rate of less than 25 in a Test innings was 8 years ago by Simon Katich. In fact, he's only the third Australian to do it this millennium.

The kid has copped enormous criticism in some quarters following that innings, which to me reflects our modern "troll" society. It is hardly surprising that a twenty year-old debutant is going to struggle to score freely against probably the best pace bowling attack in the world - one which had reduced the Australian Test team to an object of ridicule and derision just a fortnight or so previously.
Without Reshaw negotiating a tough period and Thursday night, this Test might have seen a very different result. When you add to that his sheer bloody-mindedness to see Australia home yesterday, to me it adds up to an outstanding debut Test.
