Yesterday was the release day of NRL Elite, the equivalent of Select AFL Series 2. In this release there are two insert sets called "Mojo Sets". From what I could gather, this is how they work:

- There are two of these Mojo Sets (Ruby and Sapphire)
- Each team has nine players in the set
- The Ruby cards are numbered to 40 and the Sapphire cards are numbered to 20
- You get the team set in a single "mojo" pack (i.e. No commons in the pack, just the 9 Ruby or Sapphire cards for a team)
- I think Ruby mojo packs are 1 per case and Sapphire mojo packs are 1 per 2 cases

So, my question is...would you like to see a concept similar to this introduced into an AFL card release? If so, how would you implement it? If not, why not?

There's also a poll at the top of this post. Fire away!

Personally:

I think they could work. However, I'd prefer to see one set numbered to 80 and the rarer set to 40. Using the Certified run of 8400 boxes:

More "common" set: 80 x 18 = 1440 (approx 1 per 6 boxes / 2 per case)
Rarer set: 40 x 18 = 720 (approx 1 per 12 boxes / 1 per case)

I think being limited to 20 would make them too hard for the "average collector" to acquire: 40 is still very low but probably OK. From keeping an eye on the NRL ones I reckon these sets would have a very high value and hold that value, particularly because you get the team set in one pack (you don't have to run around putting together the team set). This would make boxes more enticing to buy and fun to bust too.

They are an excellent idea in my point of view.

I have my teams (both sets) from the NRL, I used the strategy that these are going to be here and then gone esp the /20. So was aggressive in the market and made it happen.

Reckon it could work in AFL as well.

That's a good point. With the high-end collectors plus team collectors all wanting a set, it wouldn't take long for them to disappear off the market. Being limited to 40 and 80 may prevent this while still being very limited (relative to AFL cards released in the last decade).

Yeah they are obviously not for your 12 year old collector
Yeah, for sure. I guess it's about finding the balance of something that the serious collectors would want to chase, while still not being impossible to find for team collectors.

I think we (serious card collectors) are willing to spend the dollars if the product is quality. The ESP stuff has had troubles holding value since they over took the licence in 2012/13, am hoping these hold their values and goes up a bit over time.

NRL is getting more towards an American release as there is also a gold parallel card (1:3 packs), 192 in the set of them.

NRL is RRP 7.99 per pack which is getting towards the out of reach for the younger collectors, we did have a 3.99 and 2.99 release for the younger market.

Yes I would like to see ones of these in AFL Select Scotty and so glad you ask!!! As a matter of fact, I'd would actually not be one bit surprised if mojo packs will be in 2017 Certified. Six cards per player plus one header card, making it a 7-card set; simultaneously IN from 02-40 per pack. May necessarily be different players to common base and a different design for such concept. Ratio hit to be 1:432 packs in other words an additional case search inset. As far as I'm concerned, next year's series II really does need to have an additional case and/or half-case search inset and believe a mojo concept that's been in NRL Elite for last two year will cut it! In other words, in addition to the MWG cards to accumulate 9 teams that missed out on one this year and the FF correspondence to accumulate those who instead got the jersey concept this year, a Mojo concept would be an ideal bonus front end concept.

Point being, Select will need to have to give some collectors temptation to touch it as FAIC just a Mumford MWG card will not be enough to get my hands on it lol.

Hey bro
Did you get my PM?

Now does anyone have a feeling that a platinum variant of the SCS signatures will be a part of Certified 17 like the Draft Pick Platinum sigs in 2008 series ii? Yes, in other words, the golden hologoil lower pannel to be silver instead in a manner replicating the apprearence of platinum thus all other gold samping and linings replaced by silver ones and IN to 080 and 1 per club at 1:216 pks or 2 per club at 1:108? A good question.

Gold...Ruby...Sapphire...holy hell, maybe Frankincense will be next!? Looks like an awful lot of turd polishing to me.

Truly collectible cards need not just a dash of rarity but a fair lash of meaningful context to more than hold their value. I ain't sure a prettied up parallel set of a parallel set of a parall ... you get the drift ... of 6 or 9 or even 1500 club stalwarts is ever going to cut it. Long term.

A great idea in a sense. If the numbers people tip into them as they surely will, then the real gems will sell for less ;)

i still like what the nba do.... id love to collect a rainbow! first 15 sigs in black, next 30 in red next 75 in yellow and the last 130 in blue = 250 sig cards all worth more then $25 that they are going for now!
