I'm currently watching the Souths-Tigers game.
I don't think I've seen one tackle around the legs. Everything seems to be three players around the torso trying to stop the offload.
The result is the player being tackled drives forward 3-5 metres.
IMHO if they were hit around the legs when they first received the ball they would make a lot less ground.

Your thoughts?

Teams are not too worried about giving away the extra metres if have a set defensive line. More worried about offloads and the breaks they can make

Plus leg tackles equal quicker plays of the ball

I've been looking for someone to take Justin Hodges' place as the game's worst cheat/my favourite player to hate, I think I've found him. Nathan Brown, what a grub.

He's not in the same league as Hodges.....

Brown is just very loose Hodges will remain the ultimate grub and I doubt we will see another come close for generarions.

As said above today's tackling technique is all about slowing down the play the ball,

First man in, hit and stick,
Second man secure ball,
Third man in takes the tackle to ground as late as possible
Then "turtle" (put on back)
Then peel 1,2,3.

It is as boring as.

I like watching De Belin he has a great 1/1 tackling technique, he snaps the player in half and drops them where they stand.

Cheers
Ross

Tackling has basically come down to wrestling the player till they are on their back facing the wrong way......to give the opposition that extra time to set their defensive line.

Not sure its me, but we have seen so many pec tears in the last few years from wrestling....never ever remember having so many in the past.

Is it wrestling or is it the added training workloads these days?

And neck injuries.

I haven't played in over ten years but league is all about dominating the ruck nowadays.

If refs were more consistent with ruck penalties, particularly against the attacking side, this might slow the ruck down and there will be less of a need to wrestle.

How many players don't play the ball properly (off their feet), interfere with markers and play the ball off the mark. Start blowing penalties for these and things might change.

Yeah Ross, it's a bit like a pack of lions going in on a wilderbeast.

You mustn't be watching very hard. Paul Gallen, Josh Reynolds, Sam and George Burgess are easily some of the filthiest players in the game. Being close to Gallen is probably having an effect on the Fafita Brothers as the are catching up pretty quick.

Seriously what did Hodge's do, how is he the game's worst cheat?

Maybe 'worst cheat' is not the best description I was looking for, I think the words 'uncountable exhibitions of bad sportsmanship and general grubbiness' would be more suitable.

Wasn't Nathan Brown the one in the Toyota Cup brawl for the Tigers vs Raiders a couple of years ago? He just wouldnt give up. Started goingat Tim - Simona look alike on his team.
