And a majority of cronin's tries would of been only worth 3 points

He also had to kick an old leather football that were a lot harder to kick then the modern day footballs
I would imagine that cronin's percentages would be quite a bit lower then el Masri, crokers and Halligans but the footballs these guys get to kick in the modern days are much easier to kick.

Not only that but back in the day they used to take a lot of penalty shots for goal, wouldn't think twice about taking a shot 35-40 out and near the sideline.

Remember watching Cronin kick one from 49m out on the sideline at Cumberland oval to win a tied game on the siren. They might not of had the accuracy of todays kickers but they certainly had better range.

This might be of interest, I went through and averaged points per match for the 10 highest points scores probably the easiest way to compare them although Cronin and Simms played when trys were worth only 3 points. Cronin scored 75 tries, at 4 points it would push his average point per game to nearly 9.5, Simms scored 23 but also kicked 86 field goals many of them when a field goal was worth 2 points so with todays points he would probably average a little less.

Cronin 9.13
Simms 8.94
Halligan 8.84
Johns 8.74
Eadie 8.23
El masri 7.65
Taylor 7.63
Thurston 6.79
Burt 6.79
Smith 5.84

Crocker is averaging 7.03

Yeah but tries were 3 points until 1983. From 1983 season on, it was 4. Cronin would have scored some tries 1983-1986 at four points.

As for Simms, the old records usually didn't differentiate a penalty/conversion goal with a field goal as both 2 points. But after they changed the rule, it was noted as FG. That said, Simms stopped kicking em anyway.

I was thinking it was after Cronin retired it changed to 4 but even so Cronin still comes out well on top for average points per game.
The stats for Simms do show field goals, I can remember them being listed when he was still playing. There would be no way he kicked 86 in the last few years he was playing so I would say nearly all of them were worth 2 points.

Record is 2418 points by El Masri.

If Croker continues on his current season average he will break this in 5 years
Surprisingly, despite Canterbury being a long serving team, few players who have broken records. The dogs have 6 players in the top 100, 2 of which only played 50 or so games (b. clyde and b. mccarthy). El Masri is just about the only person to hold a individual record for the bulldogs (plus a few more). I seriously can not think of any other Canterbury Player with an invidiual record apart from K. Inu who was the first person in history to play in 3 grand finals, with three different clubs and lose them all.:D (2009,2011,2014)

Phil Sigsworth Newtown 81, Manly 83, Canterbury 86, all lost all against Parra

Hate to also be a stickler for detail but I don't think Inu played in the 2014 GF

Can't claim Clyde and McCarthy as Bulldogs. Both played the majority of their careers and their best football with Canberra & Souths

Yes. I searched that up, turns out nrl.com lied to me back in 2012.

Yep, jumbled that up. He played in 2012. Just like what @The Mad Hatter said

And also, my point was Bradley Clyde and Bob McCarthy only played about 50 games for the bulldogs each, and only two seasons each, and that was at the end of the careers. So I dont see why on the bulldogs belmore there is a jersey signed by the 6 Top 100 players who have played for the bulldogs, including mccarthy and clyde

But Inu did play in three grand finals and lose them all.
2009 Eels Vs Storm
2011 Warirors vs Manly
2012 Bulldogs Vs Storm
