The Australian cricket non-official thread!

Shaun Tait!

Should have brought Back Huss too - he has been on fire, and Hoggy! No one has any idea when they face him.....

Think Ashton Agar is unlucky to miss out here. Thought he would at least get a run in the T20 side.

Nathan Hauritz has officially retired from all forms of the game.

I couldn't believe he is 34. Always had a baby face cherub look.

That said, he was tonked out of the park for the Thunder last summer and for the Renegades in his game this year.

Still. Had it tough filling in for Warne (when suspended) and then having his spot off and on when he retired. I seriously can't believe it was 5 and a bit years ago since he played a test. Time flies.

Not the best, not the worst to ever represent his country. 17 tests, 63 wickets and 426 runs is bloody more than I'll ever get, so well done.

Well, what a busy week this is for the national selectors, who will today name the 14-man squad for the two-Test tour of New Zealand next month. Fox Sports are reporting that Jackson Bird will earn a call-up. Scott Boland is also rumoured to have been included as a back-up.

@The Mad Hatter your description of Scott Boland as "tripe" elsewhere in this forum reminds me of the former Australian cricketer, writer, cartoonist and humourist Arthur Mailey (author of "10 for 66 and All That") and a placard which reportedly hung above his meat shop in Sydney:

ARTHUR MAILEY
Used to bowl tripe; used to write tripe; now he sells tripe.

:-)

I do all three of those things :p

And knowing karma, Boland will probably take a five fer today. But with an average of 201, I don't think so. I'll remember him like Brett Dorey or Mick Lewis.

The squad has been announced - Jackson Bird HAS been selected, but instead of Scott Boland the selectors have picked South Australian swing bowler Chadd Sayers.

The full squad is: Steve Smith (C), Jackson Bird, Joe Burns, Josh Hazlewood, Usman Khawaja, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Shaun Marsh, Peter Nevill, James Pattinson, Chadd Sayers, Peter Siddle, Adam Voges, David Warner.

It is lovely to see batting stability for a change, particularly after the recent Test retirements of Clarke, Rogers, Watson and Haddin. I think that Adam Voges' position - because apparently anyone who even APPROACHES 40 years of age in this country is regarded as "too old" - will be there for the taking if he even slightly drops off in form in the next six to twelve months.

As I said above. Should of had an extra 10-15 runs but were too interested in getting Marsh his century, wasted a lot of balls there at the end.

I felt we were 15-20 short also, really lost our way in the end BUT that dropped sitter from Lyon cost us 28 runs including the very crucial 4 & 6 Dhoni struck off his last few balls, the couple of 50/50's that went with India (terrible calls the LBW and wide) and lastly the very questionable wide 3rd man when you have a fast medium bowler trying to bowl wide yorkers

Regarding last night's match This is my "be like Bill" effort! I kept yelling "bowl at the (insert expletive) wooden things!!" :-)

Alyssa Healy is a genuine star - 41 of 15 balls today to (along with Alex Blackwell) lift the Southern Stars to 5/140 in the first T20 against India at the Adelaide Oval. 56 runs came from the last four overs of the innings!

Although not exactly a fan of his cricket, hopefully Shaun Tait will have a few Indian batsmen hopping around tonight. I'll never forget his assault on New Zealand at the WACA in late 2007 in the one-off T2O when he gave poor Gilly as much trouble as the opposition batsmen!

Virat Kohli and David Warner have a couple of things in common, which became even more evident after last night.

1. They are both outstanding, prolific, match-winning batsmen.
2. They are both exhibit horrendous on-field behaviour.

Warner's "chirp" and propensity to insert himself into every controversy going is well-known and I have said to people privately, he is another David Hookes waiting to happen. Kohli, with his gutless, childish send-off of Steve Smith last night, is no better. For a bloke that couldn't catch a cold in the slips during India's Test tour defeat here last year, he certainly had a big mouth on him then, and apparently a bigger one now.

The Allan Border Medal count is on tonight, from 8:40pm on GEM. They cram a lot into the presentation night, with (apart from the Allan Border Medal) awards for the Test, ODI, Twenty20, Bradman Young Cricketer, State Player and Women's International Cricketer of the Year. There are also two Hall of Famers to be inducted.

You are 100% correct. Kohli is the worst in the Indian team but many of their young players are arrogant twats. Look at the way the debutant (Panday I think) carried on after getting Lynn. He had just been hit for 30 off two overs including a 107m six and 7 wides and he has the hide to carry on like that after getting a wicket off an ordinary ball.

Further to this the way Dhoni carried on after the first LBW against Finch (which he hit) was given not out. If an Aussie had carried on like that he would have been fined. Add to this him basically accusing the umpires of cheating after the first ODI

Two crucial LBW calls go India's way and they both should have been not out. Time for the ICC to flex and pull India into line regarding DRS

The selectors don't pick the right team.

We are currently #2 and could have gone #1.

It's a bit like saying India dont get test cricket.

Also, Australia's tactics of bowling wide really worked for them too. Even in 4th grade we bowl out sides with the tried and true line and length and at the stumps but I'm sure we're wrong.

why is Khawaja now playing in the third T20 rather than flying to NZ with the others who are unavailable.

This is a joke

personally i think the T20 against India has just basically been a trial with Khawaja a walk up start for the world cup. On the same note though they could have not played smith, warner and probably a few others for that same reason and given guys like head, lynn, boyce more experience and time

I feel sorry for Finchy. I'm no expert on hamstrings - I'll add that to the list of things I have NO idea about :-) - although with Alex Kontouris confirming that it is the same (left) hamstring which Finch injured severely last year, you' d hope that with a T20 World Cup around the corner a softly, softly approach is in order.

I don't believe that Cricket Australia cares much for our fortunes at international T20 level. The Big Bash is the national game's cash cow. I was amazed to hear James Brayshaw say during the Allan Border Medal coverage that Australia played ONE T20 during the voting period, hence no award would be given for that format. I just had to check for myself on cricinfo!

It might be just me, but when I watch Australia play a T20 I do so very dispassionately. I find it very hard to "get behind" the national team because the format is so far removed from the cricket I have known. I think also that having these T20's follow on from the Big Bash has been both an overkill and a let-down. I found the BBL to be a better, more entertaining, higher standard of cricket than what we have seen in both the men's and women's games against India.

That said, it is understandably difficult to support the half-arsed selection policies that, as @bigrob2307 quite rightly said, have reduced these international matches to trial games.
