The Australian cricket non-official thread!

I don't expect to see Haddin in another test.

Leaves us:

Warner
X
Smith
X
X
M Marsh
Nevill
Johnson (though not many more unless he decimates Bangladesh and NZ/WI this summer)
Hazlewood
Starc

Cummins and Pattinson will be good...when fit and firing.
Would like to see Burns, Khawaja and Bancroft come in.
Also, that spinner...Muirhead I think wouldn't be bad in the future, or Zampa.

So anyone who thinks they can bat and can score runs and lots of them....step right up.

Only the greatest spinner of all time (well maybe not but he's highly underrated and IMO should be considered)

Friends, ladies, gentlemen....my 2000th OzCardTrader post brings with it the news that David Warner has been appointed vice-captain to Steven Smith in the Australian Test and ODI teams. I'm not entirely sure what that says about the current state of leadership in Australian cricket, although I guess it would be unwise and churlish to criticise or condemn before at least watching him in action.

In other news, Australia's tour match against Northamptonshire begins tonight - ahead of the fifth Test which begins next Thursday. These are interesting times in Australian cricket, with so many apparently so keen to twist the knife, sink the boot in and dance on its supposed grave. It was like this after 2010-11 if I remember correctly.

Realistically who else could they choose? Who was the last fast bowler who was captain? They always choose batsmen. Of the current team there are two certainties Smith And Warner - that's it. Taking that into consideration, that was your choice.

I personally would have like Nevill to have been given it, however they are clearly leaving options open there with Matthew Wade taking the gloves in the ODI's.

I also feel Smith will have a long rein as skipper, and Warner may be the stop gap option until someone else puts up their hand for the long term job. perhaps Mitch Marsh?

Well done to the Southern Stars, winning the Test against England by 161 runs and taking an 8-2 lead over England in the women's Ashes series.

Jess Jonnasen 99 and 54 on debut along with Elyse Perry 9 wickets for the game including a 6 for in the second innings.

Australia only need to win one of the three T20 games to win the Ashes.

Congrats to the girls, great performance.

I agree, there really isn't much option, it may also give him (Warner) a bit of a push in maturity with the bat, having to lead by example he may start to think more about not throwing his wicket away.

I'm not the biggest fan of pup but I do hope he goes out in style, deserves a ton. And to add to that a wonderful career and a successful captain he has been =D>.

Love to see a century (or two :) ) in his last test.

Needs 222 runs (if dismissed twice) to average over 50 in tests too.

Wanted to congratulate Kumar Sangakkara on a magnificent international career. =D>

He too is playing his last test match today v India. He has been a fantastic ambassador for the game and his stats are simply outstanding.

He would be one of my first picks Dan !!
I have had the pleasure of meeting him three times. Each one he was fantastic, stopping for a chat and to sign a few autographs. He is pure class.

I heard quite a few people mention how great he was in comparison to certain individuals in the Australian team who are at times blatantly rude.

Here here mate!!

It's being humble that earns respect and being a cocky prat that looses it!!

Kumar will go down as a modern day great remembered for decades to come, a role model for his beloved country and all
Cricket lovers abroad.

Others mentioned will be soon forgot.... Then blame the game for ruining them!! Lols

To quote Paul Keating: "A beautiful set of numbers".

What a great ambassador Kumar Sangakkara has been, both as an intelligent, thought-provoking professional and as a multi-talented cricketer. His 192 against Australia at Bellerive Oval in late 2007 was an innings of Lara-like genius.

That innings by Sangakkara was incredible, you know it was big when you were 6 and still remember it.
