Iverson cap received not the same as item shown on ebay

Hey guys,

So earlier this month I won a signed Allen Iverson snapback on ebay which is accompanied by an Iverson Authentic COA. Long story short I was expecting to receive the package sometime this week and I did today. I opened the box and straight away I noticed it was a different snapback (not even a Philadelphia 76ers cap) and I don't even know who's signature is on the cap, but it came with the AI COA and photo. So I immediately took photos of everything and messaged the seller about it with the photos I took.

Basically the seller said he had never owned or seen the cap before (of the photos of the cap I sent him) and he asked for closer photos of the cap, COA, box and packaging, which I did. I felt like the seller was insinuating that I was being dishonest and I basically told him this was what I received and I took the photos and contacted him immediately and that his response was discouraging.

He replied basically saying he was genuinely perplexed and didn't understand how I received a different cap as he said he personally packed the cap himself and wanted to get to the bottom of this confusing situation.

Then later I decided to crosscheck the COA I received with the one pictured on the sellers auction. They are both Iverson Authentic COA but the one I received differs to the one pictured in the sellers auction. Now I was really confused, not only did I not receive the Iverson signed cap but now I also have a COA that was different to the one he had pictured in his auction! What is going on?!

So here's a brief background on the seller, he has 7781 positive feedback at 99.7%, in the last month he's received 2 negative feedback, 11 in the last 12 months. Overall his positive feedback is still oustanding especially when your dealing in huge volume sales and this is why I had no concerns bidding on his item but this is just strange as he doesn't seem to want to accept that the items within the package I received came from him.

What makes it even stranger is that he sent the cap via ebay's Global Shipping Program so I paid an arm to get the package safely only to receive something else! My initial thoughts when I opened the box was he made a mistake and sent me the wrong one, but he is denying he has even ever seen it before so this makes this situation a frustrating one.

Here are some pictures:

This was what I won and paid for, the image is a screen capture from the sellers auction:

Check out the COA I received and compare it against the one from the sellers auction:

What should I do? Should I wait for the seller to respond what course of action to take or just go straight to ebay and create a dispute for item received not as described in auction?

And what do you think about the seller saying he has has never owned and seen the cap I received??

Cheers in advance for your thoughts.

Hey Billyhoyle, so I won this auction on the 11th Jan and it looks as though the furthest I could search his sold listings is 15 days, so I could only see what he sold from the 12th Jan to now.

You gave me great advice, I did manage to find a very similar cap to the one I received and even has a signature which looks very similar to the sig on the cap I received. Here's a screen capture of that listing I found:

This tells me he is lying because he said he had never seen or owned a cap like the one I received yet he sold one that looks nearly identical to mine! And I paid US$73 for the Iverson cap plus US$28 Ebay's Global Shipping and the one I received that looks similar to the above sold for $15! wow...I'm going to message him and send him this image of his sold listing and request a refund and if he doesn't will escalate it to dispute.

What do you think my odds are in my favor since this seller has nearly 8000 positive feedback?

Cheers for the advice Billyhole.

unfortunately I couldn't find anything more.

You could look through his other feedback to see if there was another cole hamels?

Just sent him a message and a screen capture of the sold listing of the Cole Hamels cap. I just don't get why he denied that he had never seen or owned the cap he obviously sent me and by the looks of it possibly a mistake on his part.

@Aronzo33 thats insane man sorry to hear you have to deal with dudes like this, the fact he states he's never sold or seen a hat like this then you find that previous sold auction crys foul.
Dispute this and as previous post suggest leave this guy some honest negative feedback. Cannot wait to see this guys response to your screenshots of that previous sale.
Good luck!.

Using tracking to return it, makes the refund almost void...

But he could always say he never got it back. Tough situation

On a side note, the signing photo is different too. Same day in the pic, but his elbow is in a different spot in the pic you recieved

File a claim, neg his a$$ and move on.
You will have to return it, but satisfaction of showing him up for what he is, is worth more than $

Best of luck

So here's the seller's latest reply:

So he says he is doing everything he can to make it right but has done nothing but deny he sent me the hat from the start and then even after the screenshot I sent him of a hat that looks exactly like mine (except its all red) with a sig that looks the same as the one I received (except smaller) from one of his sold listings he says it looks 'nothing' like the one I received....I mean seriously this guy is a crook, very disappointing.

I have to dish out money to ship it back to him with tracking so now I will be out of pocket. If I file a dispute with Ebay can they put the cost of shipping it back to the seller on him?? Why should I be out of $$$ and also it was shipped to me through ebay's Global Shipping so how on earth can the seller deny anything to do with the hat I received from the seller??

Does this mean I won't receive the refund until he receives the hat, which btw I don't understand why he even wants it back since he is totally denying he ever owned or seen the hat before so why does he want it back??

Cheers for the advice guys appreciate it always.

As per ebay policy the seller has to cover the shipping cost when sending back. I have charged the seller shipping on top of what I payed originally after a card came completely destroyed in the post.

That last paragraph asking why he wants it back if it isn't his is a good question. I would ask him why I need to send back if it isn't his?

Thanks @mattyman76 that's a relief to know the seller will bare the cost of shipping it back to him but first I'll ask him why he even wants back the hat, every message I have received from him he insists he has never seen it and it didn't come from him lol um it arrived from him, it is in the same hat case as the one in his auction and even came with the AI COA even though it was different to the one pictured in his auction lol I'll update everyone with his reply, curious what he has to say about wanting it back.

And also he never answered my question re why is the AI COA I received different to the one in his auction....oh wait he's going to say, "It wasn't from me, I never seen it before" lol

Has it got his name in the return address
No there's no details of the seller on the box but there's a FedEx sticker label with my address details plastered over the top of whatever the original details were underneath. I am assuming because the package was shipped through ebay's global shipping, the package went to their transit centre first and then from there to me.

I've sent the seller two messages and asked why is he asking for me to send the hat to him for a refund when in every one of his messages to me before he was insisting the hat wasn't from him lol...no response so I'm going to dispute this through paypal.

Hey Kael, I went through the paypal resolution process and there's an amount I need to type in that I want to claim, so before I typed that in I went to the Post Office with the items to get the cost to ship it to the seller with tracking which is $37. I messaged the seller saying that I will be charging him the cost of shipping it to him, still no response. So I guess as mattyman76 said, ebays policy states that the seller has to cover the cost anyway. Ahh some dodgey sellers out there..

How's your Steven Adems collection going haha I'm looking forward to seeing your next mailday, I bet it'll be a monster one!

id say a month or two away unless i get to itchy (trust me im sure you could imagine how god dam angry i dont have them in hand yet haha but need to wait it out) got a good amount + some smaller PC's i have started (Kawhi, Lowry & Batum) who are some of my fav players in the league.

the dudes story of how he's never seen theses are cringe worthy =(.
