Iverson cap received not the same as item shown on ebay

Ok so here's the update.

After a few more messages to the seller, one of which I said that he would bare the cost of shipping it back to him which would cost $30 with tracking this was his response:

And then soon after the seller sent me another message, have a read hmmmm:

I can't say I'm not happy because he has magically found my AI signed snapback I rightfully won and paid for and said he'll send it to me but even up to now he's sticking to "I have no idea" about the hat he never seen or owned....ummm in one of his earlier messages he said he 'personally' saw the AI cap (which he has now magically found) packed into the box I receivbed lol busted mate...

So should I still open a dispute with ebay or can this guy be trusted to send me the CORRECT item this time? I sent him a message this morning saying I will leave him feedback once I receive the item...thinking whether I should still give him a big fat NEG!

Guess I'll find out in 3-4 weeks if he has indeed mailed me the right one and the one pictured in his auction. This is one of his earlier messages saying he personally saw the AI hat packed and sent to me lol lol

Question is, do you want the hat? If so, then yes take it off him and don't pay another cent for it.

If you can't trust him, (which I would have doubts about) - tell him you want it shipped direct to you in AUS (no global mail bullchit, as this is clearly the leverage last time for him to say "I have never seen that cap you got/mixed up in the process") with a tracking number.

Even still, he could fill it with paper and rubbish - comes down to your personal level of trust.

Maybe look into the time period between opening a dispute and the ability to continue with the dispute you currently have open IF the cap he sends does turn out to be dodgy. Last thing you want is for you to receive a piece of rubbish and the dispute window is then closed.

Hasn't the dispute period recently been extended to 180 days or something similar?

If you do open a dispute, don't be pressured into closing it until you've received the item. You can always open the dispute now, and leave it in an un-escalated state. This way the seller knows you're being serious about the matter. If you don't receive the item in 3-4 weeks, I would then proceed to escalate it and get PayPal/eBay involved.

I have good news to update. 20 days ago when I first posted this thread, I received a completely different signed cap with a signature that certainly did not look anything like Iverson's. The ebay seller completely denied ever sending me the wrong cap insisting he himself saw the AI cap packed in the box and sent to me.

Anyway after numerous back and fourths over a 1 week period he messaged saying he somehow 'found' the AI cap and documentation still with him lol I'm happy to report that I have received the the signed Iverson cap with the documentation which matches exactly what was on his ebay listing that I won.

Here are photos of what arrived yay! :) And thanks for all the support and advice from you guys!

Great outcome. What ended up happening with the other hat?

Originally he wanted me to send it back. First I questioned why he wanted something back he feverishly denied ever owning or seen in every one of his messages to me, because to me it didn't make sense. Second I said he as the seller would cover the shipping cost of $30 to return the cap to him. He eventually said for me to keep it all. Lol he clearly stuffed up from the start, he's lucky I'm not going to leave him neg feedback.

Two hats for the price of one! Granted there was some added stress, but I'm glad that you got the Iverson cap in the end.

He prob only had a couple of the real iverson hats left so just send you something dodgy he signed himself hoping the silly Australian won't even notice...

Thanks @ReggieEvansPC although I'm still not exactly sure who the sig is from so it's no value to me, I guess I can still use the cap display protector though :)

This seller would have been kidding himself if he was thinking that. I won it at half the price I have seen the actual distributor sell them for which is US$150, maybe he just tried the dodgy thinking I would just take it haha NOT HAPPENING!
